We are incredibly proud to see ohDEER Martha’s Vineyard featured in The Martha's Vineyard Times!
Martha’s Vineyard is facing a serious tick crisis, mentioned frequently in our Tick Talk newsletter and on national news. The Island has an average of 53 deer per square mile, compared with the state’s target of 12 to 18. Concerns about rising cases of tick-borne illnesses like Lyme and Alpha gal have led to new local clinics, research initiatives like and growing demand for tick mitigation.
ohDEER Martha’s Vineyard, our FIRST ever franchise location, has been helping address this public health concern through education, transparent practices and All-Natural Tick Control services since 2014. Today, the hard-working ohDEER MV team operates 5 trucks 6-7 days a week and treats approximately 100 properties each week.
Owner Mario Spindola shared “I saw the need on the Island for a safer, more conscious approach to the pest control that we normally see with the chemical applications. So families, landscapers, all the above, could enjoy their yards without poisoning the environment.”
The article also shares the experience of local homeowners who have noticed fewer ticks & deer on their property while continuing to see bees, butterflies and dragonflies. The piece raises important questions about balancing protection from tick-borne illnesses with the long-term health of the Island’s ecosystem. We believe education, transparency, responsible application practices and continued research all have an important role in that conversation. 🌿 🦌
Most of all, we are proud of the entire ohDEER Martha’s Vineyard team for working tirelessly to serve their neighbors and contribute to the health of their community. They are showing what a locally owned franchise making a positive impact on the lives of locals is all about!! 💚
