“Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.”
— Margaret Mead

Behind every strong nonprofit is a group of people who saw a need and decided to do something about it.

They may start small with a conversation, a program idea, a volunteer team, or a vision for something better but when that work is thoughtful, committed, and rooted in service, it can grow into real community impact.

At Gateway, we have the privilege of working alongside organizations that are changing lives every day. Their work reminds us that meaningful change rarely happens all at once. It happens through strategy, persistence, partnership, and people who care deeply about the communities they serve.

Small teams can do powerful things when they are focused, prepared, and supported.

Bittersweet is the changing of seasons: joyful for the future yet sad to miss what once was. 🍂

It is with this emotion that we announce the departure of one of our senior consultants, Jenny Doyen.

Jenny, you will continue impacting people around you, and we’re excited to hear about your future endeavors. At the same time, we will dearly miss the energy and dedication you brought to our team and to our clients. Thank you for being a “Gateway gal” and an instrumental part of our growth over your last four and a half years. May God bless your next chapters! 💙

Love,

🍪 Gateway On Your Team means showing up for more than just the work.

It means supporting the causes that matter to our clients and our community.

At our client luncheon, we were happy to support RISE Augusta's Chick-fil-A cookie fundraiser alongside their Executive Director!

Throughout August, cookie purchases at participating Augusta Chick-fil-A locations help support RISE Augusta’s work to strengthen childhood literacy, including providing books, tutoring and resources that help local students become stronger, more confident readers.

Of course, we couldn’t buy the cookies without joining the selfie challenge, too. 📸

We’re proud to be on RISE Augusta’s team—and even prouder to support the work they’re doing for Augusta’s students.

💙 Client Highlight: Augusta Dream Center

The Augusta Dream Center is doing powerful work to give hope and change lives throughout the Greater Augusta area.

By serving under-resourced individuals and families, their team helps meet some of life’s most basic needs while creating opportunities for greater stability, dignity, and hope. Their programs provide access to food, clothing, hot meals, basic healthcare resources, computer literacy education, and meaningful community support.

Throughout the week and during their monthly First Saturday outreach the Augusta Dream Center brings volunteers, community partners, and caring professionals together to serve their neighbors in practical and personal ways.

We’re proud to work alongside an organization that leads with compassion, responds to real community needs, and remains deeply committed to helping people move forward.

Thank you, Augusta Dream Center, for the difference you continue to make across our community!

📅 One of the most important meetings on our calendar each week is our “Admin Time.”

As business owners, Faith and I intentionally block time to step away from client work and focus on the business itself.

During that time, we:

📊 Review our financials
🧩 Evaluate team capacity and upcoming workload
🌱 Identify opportunities for our team members to learn and grow
⚙️ Improve our systems and processes
🧭 Make strategic decisions about where we’re headed next

None of those tasks generate immediate revenue, but every one of them helps us build a stronger business and better serve our clients.

If your calendar is completely filled with doing the work, it may be time to schedule time to lead the business, too.

Those few hours each week can have a bigger impact than you realize.

🎉 Congratulations to White Horse Recovery on receiving a $150,000 2-year grant!

This funding will support the expansion of Trailblazers youth prevention and recovery programming for young people ages 12–18 across northern New Hampshire. This investment will help strengthen much-needed support for youth and families throughout the region.

We’re excited to celebrate this well-deserved award and the continued impact White Horse Recovery is making in its communities.

🎉 Happy Birthday, Ashley! 🎉

A business is only as strong as the people who lead it, and today we're celebrating one of ours.

If you've worked with Ashley, you know she believes her work is about more than grants and business strategy. It's about "helping the helpers," equipping the nonprofits, businesses, and leaders who are making a difference in their communities.

That calling shapes the way she leads. She encourages our team to grow, invests in the people around her, and challenges us to pursue excellence in everything we do because stronger organizations create a greater impact.

Ashley, we’re so grateful for your leadership, your vision, and the way you continue to pour into the people around you.

We pray this next year is filled with God’s blessings, joy, and continued opportunities to serve.

Happy Birthday! 💙

“Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much.”
— Helen Keller

Strong organizations are rarely built in isolation.

Meaningful progress happens when teams communicate clearly, leadership creates space for collaboration, and partners come together around a shared goal.

In grant work, collaboration can strengthen programs, expand capacity, and help organizations create a greater impact than they could achieve alone.

Whether you’re building internal systems, developing a new program, or pursuing a collaborative funding opportunity, the right people working together can move the mission forward.

What does it mean for Gateway to be "on your team"?

Lately, it's looked like...

🤝 Coordinating conversations between clients and potential funding partners to assess alignment and develop the strongest funding strategy.

📝 Leading complex federal grant efforts by bringing partner organizations together, coordinating responsibilities, and helping shape competitive, collaborative programs.

💡 Coaching client staff on how to develop cohesive, compelling applications that clearly communicate their organization's impact.

Some days we're writing grants. Other days we're facilitating strategy meetings, strengthening partnerships, developing programs, or mentoring teams.

Our role has never been just to submit applications.

Our role is to come alongside organizations, think strategically, and help build the strongest path to sustainable funding.
