For almost a year, we have been working with the Administration for the Webb City R-7 School District. We provided a solid plan for the safety of the students, staff, visitors and property for the more than 12 buildings of the district.
Last week we were made aware that the school board rejected our proposal to go a different route. They are hiring another SRO for the Jr. High, looking to hire a Safety and Security Administrator for $50,000-$55,000 a year (mind you they already have that as an Asst. Superintendent). and are wanting to place some former law enforcement officers in positions (unknown how many) around the district. Know that the Webb City Police Department provides the officers for the SRO positions, however they are still officers for WCPD and are required to leave the school should a need for back-up arises. Which means they leave the school building un-protected.
Our plan was simple
We would place highly trained and qualified officers within the school district. we mapped out 9 campuses and offered to place offers at each of them every day for the duration of the school day. That means 100% protection for 100% of the day. We also offered the options for officers for special events, such as football games, other sporting events and so on.
By no means did we intend to take the place of the WCPD. We did intend to make that school safe.
Many parents and citizens came to us suggesting and requesting that we get this done, and to those people we apologize for not getting the job done. All of us here at TSES are very upset with the outcome. However we are not gong anywhere and we will continue to work hard to represent this area in a positive manner.
We would like to thank all those who supported this and we look forward to working for you in the future.
