Finding rats, American cockroaches, or smelling sewer gas in your home or building, but nobody can figure out where it’s coming from?

Sometimes treating the pest is only half the job. You have to find the highway they’re using to get inside.

Broken, cracked, disconnected, or improperly installed sewer and stack pipes can give rats and American cockroaches a direct path from the sewer system into a structure. Those same plumbing defects can also allow sewer gases to escape into the building.

This is exactly why exclusion work is so important. 🐝

We were called out to this property for a bee problem and discovered a large, well-established hive hidden inside the soffit. We opened the soffit to gain access and completely removed the hive and all of the comb from inside the structure.

The existing soffit material was already deteriorated and falling down in several areas. Once the hive removal was completed, we secured and reattached the soffit properly. The property is currently undergoing renovations, so the owner will be addressing the remaining exterior work as the renovation continues.

This is a perfect example of why you don't have to wait until you have a pest problem to think about exclusion. Gaps and openings around your home may not be causing an issue today, but eventually something may find them.

Bees can establish hives inside soffits, rooflines and wall voids, as well as underneath decks and sheds. Rats and other pests can take advantage of many of those same openings to gain access to the structure.

Exclusion work is preventative pest control. Find the openings. Seal the entry points. Keep the pests on the outside where they belong.

🐀 Sometimes the rats aren’t getting in through the roof, they’re coming through the sewer system.

We’ve been expanding our diagnostic capabilities at Nordic Pest Control Plus, Inc. to help find rodent problems that traditional inspections can miss.

Using sewer camera and electronic locating equipment, we can inspect sewer and stack lines for broken pipes, separated connections, cracks, and other openings that may be giving rats a direct path into a home or building. We can also pinpoint the location of suspected problems so the proper repairs can be made.

We also offer smoke testing to help identify hidden openings and defects that may not be visible during a standard inspection.

This is especially valuable for HOAs, multi-unit communities, commercial properties, and older buildings with cast-iron plumbing where rodent problems may continue even after traditional pest control and exclusion work.

Today we got called out to an emergency bee job at a daycare after kids were stung on the playground.

We know a lot of people care about protecting pollinators, and so do we. That is exactly why we always push exclusion work. Sealing up entry points on homes, businesses, and other structures does not just help keep out rats. It also helps stop bees from getting inside walls, roofs, and other voids where they can start building a colony and eventually become a safety issue.

When that happens, especially around children, it leaves very few options.

In this case, the area had already been worked on before, but it was not properly handled. We had to open it back up, correct the problem, seal it the right way, repair it, and paint it back clean.

Now the playground is safe again, and that is what matters.

Rats do not belong in your attic, walls, or ductwork.

If you are hearing scratching, seeing droppings, noticing a smell, or wondering where the damage is coming from, there is a good chance rodents are active where you cannot see them.
