Please see the attached press release regarding one of our District Board members.

The Wellington Fire Protection District is aware of the arrest of a member of its Board of Directors. The individual has since resigned from his position on the Board.

The District does not condone violence or threats of any kind. However, we respect the criminal justice process and will defer to law enforcement and the District Attorney's Office to investigate the allegations and determine the appropriate course of action.

The District wishes to clarify that the individual involved was an elected member of the Board of Directors, voted on by the citizens, and was not an employee of the District. His resignation ends his official role with the District.

The Wellington Fire Protection District remains committed to maintaining the public's trust, upholding the highest standards of professionalism, and continuing to provide the community with the level of service it expects and deserves.

October's Newsletter is Here! It's also Fire Prevention Week! Stay tuned for some more safety tips!

Fire & Home Safety: Use this month to test smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors and replace batteries if needed. Review escape plans and practice a home fire drill with your family. Inspect fire extinguishers to make sure they are full, unexpired, and easy to reach. Have wood-burning fireplaces and chimneys cleaned and inspected for creosote buildup or blockages. Service your furnace and replace air filters.

Driving and Road Safety: Watch for deer. Autumn is peak period for deer movement, particularly around dawn and dusk. Prepare for frost and wet leaves. Roads can become slick so slow down to increase your following distance to avoid sudden braking. Stay alert for pedestrians. October brings more pedestrians and trick-or-treaters out after dark; stay alert and slowdown in residential zones. Driving during dusk is dangerous because rapidly changing light, low sun glare, and eye adjustment delays make it hard to see other cars, pedestrians, and animals. Turn on your low-beam headlights early – even before sunset – so other drivers and people can see your car.

Health and Wellness: October is the ideal time to receive your annual flu vaccination as autumn virus season begins. As daylight hours shorten in October, combat low mood by spending time outside in morning sunlight. Keep bedtime consistent to prep for the upcoming end of Daylight Savings Time. Maintain active habits by swapping outdoor workouts for indoor gym routines like yoga, home aerobics, etc. to keep endorphin levels up as weather cools.

National Preparedness Month: Use this month to double-check emergency kits to ensure supplies like water, food, flashlights, waterproof clothes, phones charges, prescription medications and first aid kits are up-to-date and ready to go at a moment's notice.

Fall Prevention and Lighting: Check that indoor walkways, stairwells, and outdoor perimeters are well-lit as daylight hours grow shorter and remove tripping hazards like loose rugs.

Commuting, Construction & School Zones: Please exercise extra caution while traveling through the ongoing Cleveland Avenue construction area and surrounding school zones. With school back in session, be especially alert for children and pedestrians, students riding bicycles and e-bikes, increased vehicle traffic, and active school bus stops.

Last week, Mayor Rebekka Dailey presented Chief Germain and Larimer County Sheriff’s Office with this Proclamation for National Preparedness Month, and we wanted to share it with everyone!

We are heartbroken to hear of the loss our neighbors at Greeley Fire recently experienced.

Our thoughts are with the firefighters and the friends and family of the fallen while they navigate this profound loss.

UPDATE | MEMORIAL SERVICE ATTENDANCE

At Alden’s family's request, the memorial service will be reserved for family, friends, members of the fire service, and public safety personnel.

We are incredibly grateful for the outpouring of support from our community and appreciate your understanding as we honor Alden’s family's wishes.

The Greeley Fire Department invites our community to join us as we honor the life and service of Firefighter Alden Foote.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, September 17, at 10:00 a.m. at the Union Colony Civic Center, Monfort Concert Hall.

We are grateful for the tremendous support shown to Alden’s family and our GFD family. We hope you will join us as we come together to remember and honor Alden.
