Ever wonder how a flat, floppy tire goes from looking sad and defeated to perfectly sealed and road (or yard) ready? The secret weapon is a “bead seater”, basically a tank of compressed air that gives the tire one big, dramatic WHOMP to pop the bead back into place against the rim. 💨

Think of it like CPR for tires. Except louder. And with less mouth-to-mouth. (Thank Goodness!)

At Nick's Small Engine Repair, we use ours on everything from lawn mower tires to ATV tires that have thrown a fit. 🌅 Good Monday Morning from Nick's Small Engine Repair!

We want to assure everyone that we are open for business today… however, our Head of Security and Chief Desk Officer, Dusty, has filed a formal complaint.

You see, Dusty showed up this morning, took one look at the calendar, realized it was Monday, and immediately threw himself across ALL the laptops in protest. We tried to explain that customers need their equipment fixed, that engines don't repair themselves, and that SOME of us have to work on Mondays.

He was not impressed. 🐾

After lengthy negotiations involving a handful of treats and several chin scratches, Dusty has agreed to allow us access to ONE keyboard for the day, but only if we don't make him do any heavy lifting.

So here we are! Open for business, operating on limited keyboard access, and fully supervised by a 10-pound gray cat who clearly missed his calling as a union rep. 😄

Bring us your mowers, chainsaws, and small engines, we'll get you taken care of! Just don't wake Dusty. 🐈‍⬛ 💤

Sitting here listening to the rain absolutely HAMMER the shop roof and honestly? We’re emotional. 🌧️😂

See, there was a time, not so long ago, when this exact weather would’ve had Nick out in the driveway, one tarp held down by a bucket of bolts, one extension cord doing things OSHA would not approve of, and at least one chicken judging him from across the yard. 🐔

The neighbors had a front row seat to what I can only describe as “a man losing an argument with a riding mower in the rain.” Nobody offered to help. They just watched, some of them even had lawn chairs. 🪑😭. It’s a small town and entertainment is limited.

Now we’ve got four walls, a roof, and the quiet dignity of a man who no longer has to google “can carburetors get wet.” (They cannot, by the way.)

If your small engine needs some TLC, bring it on in. We’re open, we’re dry, and Nick’s got PLENTY of experience fixing things that should’ve never gotten rained on in the first place. 😄🔧

🚨 HE’S BACK. AND HE LOOKS WAY TOO HAPPY. 🚨

Nick walked through that door this morning looking like a man who had just finished a spa retreat. Rested. Refreshed. At peace with the world.

We have 7 days worth of chaos, one scarred roasted pepper jar lid, and a shop cat with a god complex to fix that IMMEDIATELY.

But seriously, he’s back, we’re open, and that man is READY to work.

Got equipment that needs attention before summer gets away from you? NOW is the time. Let’s get that man back to his natural habitat, elbow deep in an engine, slightly stressed, exactly where he thrives.

🚨 DAY 5 UPDATE: I WENT INTO THE SHOP. I HAD TO. 🚨

Okay before anyone says ANYTHING, I had a legitimate reason to be in there this time.

Roasted peppers. That’s it. Simple. I just needed to open a jar of roasted peppers.

Now, Nick is ALWAYS saying “work smarter, not harder” and “use the right tool for the job.” So fine, Nick. FINE. I went to the shop to find the right tool. YOU always disappear to the shop to “find the right tool.”

I found this thing. It looked official. It had a clamp. It had a ratchet. It looked like it meant BUSINESS. I felt very competent walking back to the kitchen with it.

Reader, it did absolutely nothing except scratch the lid and make me look like I was trying to perform surgery on a jar of peppers for 10 minutes.

So I called Nick. 📱

He sighed. Not a little sigh. A LONG sigh. The kind of sigh that travels 300 miles through a phone.

Turns out this is some kind of oil filter wrench and has never once in its entire life been intended for roasted pepper jars. Apparently there’s a difference.

For the record, the butter knife method took 4 seconds. FOUR. SECONDS.

Nick, your tools are great buddy. But a butter knife will always go 5-0 against the ratchet set.

👻 Ghost watched the whole thing from the workbench and I’m convinced she said nothing on purpose.

🔧 Day 3 of Nick Being Gone: There Has Been a Development…the Shop is Under New Management

So you may remember that yesterday , Day 2, I found the feeler gauge and was kindly asked by Nick to step away from the workbench.

So I did, I stayed inside like I was told and watched YouTube and felt very proud of myself. I stayed out of the shop. I was GOOD.

Day 3? We have a situation.

Hopefully you all remember Ghost the shop cat. Nick failed to mention that Ghost apparently believes she is the acting Shop Manager in Nick’s absence, and she has taken his responsibilities VERY seriously.

I walked outside this morning to find her perched on top of this Ariens giving it a full diagnostic review. Paws on the deck, staring me down like “I’ve got this under control, Emily, go back inside.”

And honestly, her form and attention to detail is better than mine would be. The LOOK on her face says she has already identified the problem, knows exactly what parts are needed, and is deeply unimpressed with my presence. In other words, she’s definitely still a cat.

I texted Nick a photo and his response was, I quote:
“Good. Ghost knows what she’s doing. DO NOT HELP HER.” As if I would be the hinderance to her progress.

So there you have it, folks. Nick is at the Indianapolis 500 watching cars go 200mph and making lots of left hand turns, I am inside not touching anything, and Ghost is out here running the whole operation.

🔧 Day 2 of Nick Being Gone: I Have Entered the Shop.

Hello, friends. It’s Nick’s wife. The social media manager. The woman who has been told approximately 4,000 times “don’t touch anything in the shop.”

I have news…I touched something in the shop. 😬

THIS thing right here. It looks like a tiny metal hand fan, which honestly would be adorable at a summer wedding, but apparently it is called a feeler gauge and it measures tiny gaps inside engines with very precise metal blades. Those thin metal blades aren’t just for show, each one is a precise thickness used to measure tiny gaps and clearances in engines. Things like valve clearances, spark plug gaps, and other tight tolerances that need to be just right for your equipment to run properly.

I described it to Nick as “the silver thingy that opens like a fancy little book” and he went silent for three full seconds before asking me to please just post a picture and step away from the workbench.

So that’s what I’m doing.

Meanwhile, NICK is at the Indianapolis 500 watching cars go VERY fast in a circle while I am here, in the shop, discovering tools and increasing his anxiety with every text. ♥️

Your small engines are safe, people. I have been explicitly forbidden from attempting repairs and honestly that’s the right call for everyone involved. Nick will be back soon, smelling like sunscreen and race fuel, ready to fix your mowers. 🌞

🎓 CLOSED THIS FRIDAY, MAY 15TH and NEXT WEEK🎓

Hey everyone! Nick’s Small Engine Repair will be closed this Friday so we can do something way more important than fixing carburetors, watching our daughter Ashlyn walk across that stage! 🎉

Not only is she graduating high school, but Friday also happens to be her 18th birthday! Yep, she managed to pull off a graduation AND a birthday all in one day, overachiever through and through. 😄 We couldn’t be more proud of her!

We will be back in the shop on Saturday, and then closed again next week, returning May 26th. Ashlyn and Nick will be heading to the Indianapolis 500 for a much anticipated and long planned birthday present! 🏎️💨 (Let’s be honest… it might be a little bit of a present for Nick too! 😂)

PTO swap on a pull-behind Swisher came in and turned into a full engine pull, and honestly, we couldn't have been more excited about it.

Look, changing blades and cleaning carbs pays the bills. But the day you get to pull an entire engine out of a machine? That's when it gets fun. Digging deep, figuring it out, getting your hands truly dirty, that's what this shop was built on.

Nick's been wrenching on small engines long enough to know that the bigger the job, the bigger the satisfaction when that thing fires back up and runs perfectly. There's nothing quite like it.

Swisher's back together, PTO's fresh, and we're already looking forward to the next one. 😄

Look at this man. LOOK AT HIM. Holding that old belt like a trophy bass! Crawling under machinery with a SMILE on his face. This is not a normal person. This is someone who was BORN to replace your drive belt.
