Here's a deal even your stubborn pull-start can get behind: from now until December 31, for every service we perform, Nick's Small Engine Repair will donate 2 breakfasts AND 2 lunches to students at Sunflower Elementary in Ottawa!

We're proud to partner with the Franklin County Blue Dots group on this one. Last spring they raised enough to provide more than 150 lunches to Wellsville Elementary, and we want to help them do it again! 💙

Why does it matter? Ever tried running a chainsaw on an empty tank? Doesn't go well. Kids are the same way. A hungry kid can't focus on reading or math, and for some students, school meals are the most reliable food they'll get all day. A good breakfast and lunch help kids pay attention, learn, and just be kids. No one should be sitting at a desk worrying about an empty stomach.

So if your snowblower has been giving you the silent treatment, your generator hasn't so much as coughed since last winter, or your chainsaw has developed a case of the “I don’t wannas” now's the time to bring it in. You get your equipment running right and a kid at Sunflower gets fed. 🙌

The big doors may be closed to keep the weather out, but don't let that fool you, we're here and working! 🔧

If you see our doors shut, we're probably just inside the shop. Head on over to the side door or give us a call at (913) 238-7214. The "Come in, we're OPEN" sign means it! 😄

Rainy days are a great time to get ahead on fall and winter prep. Bring in your snowblower, generator, or chainsaw and we'll make sure it's ready before you need it. ❄️⚡🪚

Nick’s Small Engine Repair is proud to support our neighbors in Baldwin City and the Baldwin Bulldogs! 🐾💜

Our Baldwin City High School Bulldogs have made it into the TOP 40 in the nation in T-Mobile’s Friday Night 5G Lights competition! That’s a pretty big deal for our little corner of Kansas! 🌾

And the best part? This competition could help bring some BIG improvements to Baldwin’s football facilities and give future Bulldogs something special to call their own. 🏈

We may spend our days fixing mowers, wrangling engines, and occasionally negotiating with a shop cat 😹, but we know one thing: a strong community is built by showing up for each other.

Our inbox lately has been wild. We've had messages from all over the country, and while we're flattered (truly, our heads are getting big), we feel it's our duty to share some geography. 🗺️

Nick has been asked "do you only fix mowers?" at least a dozen times in the last month.

So, for the record: no. 🔧

Four-wheelers. Snowblowers. Generators. Chainsaws. Leaf blowers. Trimmers. Basically anything with a small engine meets his requirements to be worked on. (And no…he didn’t forget about Mowers. He's not a monster.)

Exhibit A: this quad, which rolled in looking for life support and is now on its way to a full recovery. 🏁

But let me level with you! Mowing season is over, and a Nick with nothing to fix is a dangerous Nick. He starts "organizing" the garage. He rearranges the bolt shelf. He comes inside with ideas. 😳💡

His Shop Manager (aka his wife) would like everyone to know her sanity depends on him staying busy out there. Please. Help a woman out. 🙏

Snow's coming. Your snowblower has been sitting in the shed since March with old gas, plotting. It will pick the worst possible morning to let you down. ❄️

Bring it in. Keep Nick in the shop. Keep the Shop Manager smiling. Everybody wins.

🍂 Your mower worked hard all summer. Now it's time to return the favor.

Here's the deal: in a few weeks, you're going to park that mower in the shed and forget it exists until April. And come spring, it's going to repay you with a sputter, a cough, and a stubborn refusal to start… right when the grass is ankle-high and your neighbor's yard looks like a golf course.

Don't let that person be you.

Bring it in NOW for an end-of-season tune-up, and it'll be ready to roar the minute the snow melts. While you're at it, dig out that snowblower you swore you'd "look at before winter" last year. (We know. We've all been there.) Generators and chainsaws too. Better to find out it won't start in October than during the first ice storm. ⚡🪚❄️

🍂 Happy First Day of Fall from Nick's Small Engine Repair! 🍂

It's been a while since we've posted. Rumors that we melted in the summer heat are greatly exaggerated, but still pretty believable. 🫠 We've just been buried in mowers, but the waiting yard is looking a little empty (see exhibit A pictured).

But the leaves are falling, the pumpkin spice is flowing and mower season is finally winding down. That means it's time to think about the machines that have been hiding in the back of your garage since last winter. 👀

❄️ Snowblowers: Nobody wants to find out theirs won't start at 6am with a foot of snow in the driveway and a boss who "doesn't care about the weather."

⚡ Generators: The best time to test your generator is NOT during the power outage.

🪵 Chainsaws: A dull chain is just a very loud, very tired saw.

☀️ A Note from Nick's Small Engine Repair ☀️

With temperatures climbing this week (we're pretty sure our thermometer is considering an arctic vacation), we're making a few adjustments to keep Nick safe and not melting.

🕐 Hours will be adjusted during the heatwave to avoid the hottest part of the day, Nick would rather fix your mower than become one with the gravel when he begins to puddle.

🔧 Turnaround times may be slightly longer. The Office Manager (aka his wife) is requiring Nick to take additional breaks to stay safe and hydrated. Quality repairs and heat stroke don't mix well.

We appreciate your patience during this stretch. Your equipment will still receive the same quality service you count on, just on a schedule that keeps everyone standing upright.

Closed Tomorrow: Parenting Duty Calls 🚗💨

We're closed tomorrow because we have a very important mission: rescuing our teenager from summer camp before she forgets what wifi is.

Dusty's Daily Log: Engine Swap Day 🐈‍⬛

7:42 AM — Woke up from my nap on the good chair to find some human bringing in a NEW engine. Shiny. No scratches. No idea what it's in for.

7:45 AM — Nick stole my chair to work on it. I let this slide. For now.

8:00 AM — Sniffed the new engine top to bottom. Smells like a factory and false confidence. It has no idea how things work around here yet.

8:12 AM — Watched Nick pull wires and tighten bolts like he knows what he's doing. He mostly does. I stay close just in case he doesn't.

8:20 AM — Sat directly under his elbow so he'd remember I exist. Mission accomplished, he stopped working to scratch my head. As it should be.

8:26 AM — New engine still hasn't acknowledged me as its superior. Rude. I circle it twice to establish dominance.

8:31 AM — Nick keeps trying to focus on "torque specs" and "wiring harnesses." I remind him that I am more important than both of those things by standing on his tools.

8:40 AM — Old engine gets hauled out. Didn't even say goodbye. Cold.

8:45 AM — New engine goes in. Nick seems pleased with himself. I allow it, since I clearly did most of the supervising.

9:00 AM — Engine roars to life. Nick smiles. I yawn, unimpressed, then go find a new spot to nap because apparently my chair is "for customers now."

Another satisfied customer. Another engine that now knows exactly who's in charge around here.
