WCPA is calling your attention to the New Call to Action that the Transportation Development Association is making on transportation funding. They have developed an online petition that will be delivered to the Governor’s office and every legislative office in Madison. The message is the same simple message. “Just Fix It”, the transportation funding problem needs to get resolved in the upcoming budget in a long term and sustainable way.
This message came through loud and clear yesterday at the fall meeting of the Wisconsin Transportation Builders Association. The 2017 quantity projections for the Wisconsin Department of Transportation were discussed in detail. And, as most of you know the 2017 concrete pavement quantities are at the lowest level in over 30 years. It is all budget and transportation funding related. Concrete paving, earthwork, bridge, base course quantities are all in a position of significant cuts in quantities. The asphalt quantities are far below five and fifteen year averages, but they got a slight boost over the 2016 levels only because the Department is being forced to overlay several segments of roadways that were programmed for reconstruction but are now being delayed for an extended period due to this funding situation. The new 2017-2019 budget contains cuts of almost $500 million in the Majors program, Mega Projects and SPR reconstruction budget lines. These are the budget lines where the majority of the vast concrete pavement projects occur.
WCPA is urging you to send this out to everyone in your companies to get as many names as possible on this petition. Please support the entire industry effort in forcing the Wisconsin Legislature and the Governor to address this in the upcoming budget.
