All quality projects, regardless of their function or how the design a

ffects the viewer, have one thing in common: connections that hold and last and that tell of careful craftsmanship. Enjoyment and pride in working are opposite commercialism and any planned or unintended obsolescence. They have to do with the challenge in the doing that makes the final result an almost anticlimactic experience. Some people think that hand work can't match the precision of machine production. The thought has some validity, but only when applied to mechanical monsters that spew out hundreds of clones. My main concern is with custom work by an individual producing one project that, like a work of art, can't be duplicated.
