October is Manufacturing Month, and here's what we know after years in this industry: nobody remembers the quote. They remember who picked up the phone when the line went down.

An induction system is only as good as the people standing behind it. That's why PPI builds, services, and supports heating and melting equipment for forging, melting, and OCTG operations from two North American shops, West Bend and Houston.

Pillar, Inductotherm, Ajax TOCCO, Radyne, or our own. If it heats or melts metal, we keep it running.

Built to perform. Backed by people.

Here's a cost nobody puts on the quote sheet.

When you heat steel in a gas furnace, the billet sits in hot air and oxygen for half an hour or more. The surface oxidizes the whole time, and 1 to 3 percent of that billet ends up as scale on the floor. Steel you already bought and paid to heat.

Induction gets the same billet to temperature in seconds to a few minutes. Not enough time for much oxidation. Scale loss usually drops to half a percent or less.

On 10,000 tons a year, that gap is about $150,000 of steel that becomes parts instead of sweepings.

Here's a fact for the day.

Heat a steel bar to about 1,400°F and it stops being magnetic. A magnet won't stick to it anymore. That's the Curie point, and it matters a lot if you heat metal for a living.

Below that temperature, induction current stays in a thin skin at the surface. Above it, the current pushes deeper into the bar. The heat pattern changes shape in the middle of the cycle, and the power supply has to handle both sides of it.

It's why picking a frequency for billet, bar, or tube heating is closer to art than a catalog number.

Give us a follow if you like this kind of thing. We've got plenty of it.

When an induction line goes down, the clock doesn't care whose name is on the equipment.

Power Parts International builds and supports induction heating and melting systems for forge shops, melt decks, and OCTG mills across North America.

The equipment matters. What happens after the install matters just as much. We answer the phone, we know your application, and we keep parts on the shelf.

Our people take it personally when a customer is down.
