"2026 marks 50 years since Michigan's bottle and can return law passed, but after decades on the books, the landmark effort to tackle litter and promote conservation faces issues... Critics said the practice is unsanitary and burdensome."

"I think that the modern recycling, the processes that are in place, are a much better way to do it," MIRA Midwest Independent Retailers Association & Foundation CEO Bill Wild said. "Now is the time to start thinking about a more modern way to do it and to alleviate this burden that we put on our retailers for 50 years."

Business owners, we need your help! 🚨

We’re looking for insight on the recent increase in meat prices for a segment in our next Bottom Line magazine. Answer any or all of the following questions in the comments to help us get a better understanding of the retailer side of things.

1. What trends are you seeing in meat prices this year, and how are they affecting your day‑to‑day operations?

2. Which proteins (beef, pork, poultry, lamb) have shown the biggest price fluctuations, and what’s driving those changes from your perspective?

3. How are rising or unstable meat prices impacting customer buying habits in your store?

4. What strategies have helped you manage margins while keeping prices competitive for your customers?

5. Have you made any changes to your meat case—cuts offered, portion sizes, value packs—to respond to price pressures?

6. What do you wish consumers understood about the true cost of meat today?

7. Looking ahead, what are your expectations for meat prices over the next 6–12 months?

We would love to hear what you have to say about this hot topic! Make sure to tell us your name too if you’re responding from a business page, so we can quote you in the magazine. Thank you!
