OPERATION GREEN LIGHT FOR VETERANS
Shine a light of hope and support for veterans

Along with the National Association of Counties (NACo) and the National Association of County Veteran Service Officers (NACVSO), ISAC encourages Iowa counties to join Operation Green Light to show support for veterans. This initiative aims to "shine a light" on issues and challenges veterans face, particularly as they transition to civilian life. Along with our state and federal partners, counties serve veterans every day as they take on these challenges and navigate a sometimes difficult system. Operation Green Light will show appreciation and support for our veterans while bringing awareness to the resources available to them.

You can explore NACo’s Operation Green Light resources and learn how your county can participate by clicking here. A highly visible step you can take is lighting county buildings green from November 4 through November 11 to show gratitude and grow awareness. You might also consider presentations by your veterans service officers and community services departments at a board of supervisors meeting and other public events. Editorials and/or press releases promoting Operation Green Light can get the message to a large audience and the toolkit has templates for your use. Finally, your board of supervisors can bring awareness to the cause by adopting a resolution expressing support. A sample resolution can be found here.

• Get involved: Light county government buildings green, pass a resolution in support of the campaign, engage local news media and use social media to showcase your county’s efforts.
• Use the toolkit: Access a resolution template, printable flyer, sample press releases, a sample letter to the editor, social media templates and graphics to support local outreach.
• Share your participation: Once your buildings are illuminated, be sure to share photos with NACo and post them on social media using . The participation toolkit will include a live tracker of county activities across the country.
