I have several of these ash Y shaped pieces. On the one pictured, I cut off several feet and skimmed one side with an electric hand plane. The others are still on the shelf. It is hard to read in the picture but the height is 41"

I have some short, fairly wide, walnut slabs that just came out of the kiln. I skimmed small areas with an electric hand planer just to make sure they were walnut, and took some measurements/pics.
Update: I've sold the pieces numbered 1 and 5.

I have a few 4/4 figured walnut boards. $6 to $10 per board foot.

Sawmilling with the Lucas Mill and chainsaw bar attachment: This has been a struggle. First, the silver maple log was big enough that we had to lift the mill, putting it on concrete blocks. The drive hub and chain were worn, so I spent $359 on those and a coupe of spare track roller. It took a while to figure out that the dept gauges on the chain need lowered (a lot) to get it to cut. The mill is incredibly hard to push through a wide log when the chain isn't perfect. Then when we were having better luck sawing (after several days of sawing only one slab and quitting) we hit a pole barn nail. The next pass at almost the same place as the nail, we hit a rock. Funny how a rock did as much to damage a chain as the pole barn nail. I ordered a 100' roll of .404 skip tooth ripping chain for $355, but it is not in yet. This is not proving to be a profitable effort so far.

I made a trip to Pike Lumber Inc. and purchased some nice 4/4 cherry and some 5/4 soft maple with ambrosia streaks, mostly not heavy ambrosia.

One of the cold weather projects in my shop has been to organize short/small pieces of wood for sale. I've built a new rack and made a lot of progress. I even followed up on the idea that these pieces would sell better if I had the price on them! I have a lot of them priced, but there are a few hundred pieces to go.

I have struggled with getting satisfactory results planing with the attachment on my Lucas Mill. When I push the mill forward to plane, it catches and is jerky. Today the roller on one side climbed the rail a bit and then dropped, resulting in gouging the slab and throwing it off of the platform. Scary. I measured the diagonal and that is a problem. I had it set up as a bit of a parallelogram. I took it down and reset the mill.

Now I plan to replace the flimsy platform with something more substantial and then I'll give it another try.

I haven't added posts and pictures here for a long time. I have, however, been busy.

I've added a couple of pictures of some white oak slabs. They are 6/4 thick (I think) and fairly flat after kiln drying. I think the pattern of figure in the wood as it circles the top is kind of interesting.

I'm still working with the Lucas Mill planer. It is different than a planer in that it flattens the piece, whereas a planer tends to leave any twists in the board. I glued up some longer beams to rest slabs on, but they aren't totally stable, so I need to add bracing between them. I've planed one longer slab -- definitely need to figure out how to move bigger slabs on and off of the platform via one old person.

I've taken the chainsaw bar attachment off of my Lucas Mill and moved it closer to the shop with the planer attachment on it. I've flattened about 10 short slabs so far, but I'm still learning and experimenting. It seems that this is going to be better than I expected at flattening slabs.

It has been a long time since I made a post and one of the reasons is that I struggle with Facebook. I just wrote out a post, went to a different tab for a second, and what I'd written is gone. I opened another "create post" and I can't close it without writing something to lose when I close it. Technology is wonderful, except when it isn't.
