EXECUTIVE LEADERSHIP CRITTENDEN
Government, Public Policy & Civic Leadership

Today was a full day of learning, conversation, and perspective for our Executive Leadership Crittenden cohort.

We started at the Crittenden County Courthouse with County Judge Woody Wheeless for a courthouse tour and “Government 101,” giving participants a closer look at how county government works.

From there, we visited Marion City Hall for an engaging conversation with Mayor Tracy Brick, who shared Marion’s wins, challenges, opportunities, and strategic vision for the future.

A special thank you to Southland Casino Hotel for hosting our cohort for lunch at The Kitchens Buffet. We appreciate General Manager & President Osi Imomoh for sharing an inside look at Southland, its role as an economic driver, and its ongoing commitment to community outreach and charitable giving.

Jonathan Cardwell continued our Extreme Ownership discussion, covering Chapters 3 “Believe” & 4 “Check the Ego” and connecting the lessons to leadership in our workplaces and lives.

We also welcomed DeQuanda Smith with Crittenden County Cares, who introduced the cohort to the Action to Impact - Grow with Google certificate program and helped participants explore opportunities aligned with their interests.

Raymond Whiteside, Executive Director of BAM West Memphis, closed our programming with an overview of BAM, its resources, and a timely conversation on the art of advocacy.

And we wrapped up the day with a behind-the-scenes tour of Southland’s hotel accommodations—from a junior suite to a penthouse.

A tremendous thank you to all of our speakers, hosts, and annual and Leadership Program sponsors who continue to invest in developing informed, engaged, and connected leaders for Crittenden County.

This is leadership in action.

🍨 ☕️ Mentorship. Connection. Leadership.

Last Saturday, our Leadership Academy brought together members of our Executive Leadership Crittenden cohort and Crittenden Rising Leaders Collective for a mentor-mentee meetup at Groovy Greyhound Coffee & Creamery.

As part of our Leadership Academy experience, each Executive Leadership participant is paired with a member of our Rising Leaders cohort. These mentor-mentee pairs are expected to connect at least once a month outside of their individual cohort sessions.

Why? Because leadership development doesn’t happen only in a classroom.

Mentorship gives our Rising Leaders an opportunity to ask questions, gain perspective, build relationships and learn from professionals who have navigated their own leadership journeys. At the same time, our Executive Leaders benefit from investing in the next generation, gaining fresh perspectives and sharpening their own leadership through the responsibility of mentoring.

It’s a two-way relationship—and that’s exactly what we want our Leadership Academy to create.

We’re grateful to our mentors for making the commitment and to our Rising Leaders for showing up ready to learn, grow and build meaningful connections.

This is how we build a stronger pipeline of leaders for Crittenden County and the Delta. 🚀

Thank you Tiffany for taking the lead and organizing this meetup! Some cohort not pictured.

Unlocking Opportunities for Local Businesses! 🔨🤝

Today, the West Memphis Chamber was proud to partner with Turner Construction for an impactful Lunch & Learn at the West Memphis Library.

Thank you to everyone who joined us and invested their time in learning more about opportunities in the commercial construction industry.

A special thank you to Turner Construction for partnering with the West Memphis Chamber to help create greater access for local, small, and diverse companies to expand their capabilities, build relationships, and explore opportunities within commercial construction.

And this is just the beginning! Today’s Lunch & Learn is part of a series leading up to the Turner School of Construction Management. If you missed today’s session, don’t worry—we’ll meet again in November for the next installment.

Rising Leaders Collective | Government & Civic Engagement 🇺🇸

Today, the Crittenden Rising Leaders Collective spent the day exploring government, civic engagement, and the power of using your voice.

We began at West Memphis City Hall, where Mayor Jaylen Smith of Earle shared how local government directly impacts young people and spoke about his personal journey as the youngest African American elected mayor in U.S. history. Students also heard from Arkansas State Representative nominee and Code Crew Co-Founder Audrey Willis on “Your Voice Matters: Civic Engagement Beyond Voting,” followed by a big-picture conversation with West Memphis Mayor Marco McClendon about what’s happening now—and what’s ahead—in West Memphis.

We then traveled to West Memphis District Court for a hands-on mock trial experience. Students stepped into the roles of bailiff, court reporter, defendant, prosecuting attorney, defense attorney, witnesses, and jurors, giving them an inside look at how the judicial process works. A HUGE thank you to Judge Tyler Ginn for creating this special experience.

A special thank-you to Chick-fil-A West Memphis for providing lunch for today’s group!

And thank you to West Memphis School District and Marion School District for allowing their students to dedicate part of each month to these curated leadership experiences—experiences designed to challenge them, broaden their perspective, and build upon their personal and future endeavors throughout their leadership journey.

Special thanks to Ms. Cherith Minnis of West Memphis School District and Mrs. Latarsha Johnson of Marion School District for helping make these opportunities possible.

Also, thank you Ann Chapman's Outdoor Warehouse for customizing our rising leaders polos!

Today was a reminder that leadership isn't just about holding a title. It’s about understanding your community, knowing your voice matters, and being willing to use it.

The future of Crittenden County is in good hands. 🤝
