Joseph A. Biedenharn, the first bottler of Coca-Cola, built his home in Monroe, Louisiana, in 1914. Today, The Biedenharn Museum and Gardens of Monroe historic house museum includes rooms decorated by his daughter Emy-Lou Biedenharn, a renowned opera singer during the pre-World War II, the Coca-Cola Museum, and the ELSong Gardens (Emy-Lou’s song).
The gardens are designed as an English walled garden, developed by Emy-Lou Biedenharn upon her return to Monroe. There is over an acre of terraces, fountains, formal plantings, and statues, amid French iron grillwork, and tailored boxwood walkways. There are several thematic settings including the Four Seasons Garden, Oriental Garden, and Musical Grotto. The iconic Wagnerian Fountain is located on the north end of the Ballet Lawn.
