Just read the OneNYC 2050 strategy and one of the ways NYC is planning to offset the grid with renewables (solar, wind, and hydro) is adding more transmission lines between upstate NY and NYC. NYC is too dense to build enough renewable energy sites that could offset our energy consumption, so we draw power from outside sources. At the same time, NYC is building its battery storage capacity to properly store that intermittent energy. NY State’s current goal is to install 3000 MW of storage by 2030. Most of these batteries will be located at Con Ed’s peaker plants, symbolizing a new future flourished from a dilapidated past. I love the journey we are taking, but I think the city should consider investing in R&D of nuclear energy. The issue with solar, hydro, wind, and other intermittent sources of energy is that they are intermittent! We are going to need an energy source that can provide power 24/7 365 days a year, and I know nuclear energy will play that role. These are pressing issues because it’s a matter of reducing our carbon footprint while supplying enough energy to build and innovate. Luckily we have the most creative people in the world working on this. The future is bright ☀️

“Without that $465 million, the Model S would have never happened,” Peter Rawlinson, who was chief engineer for that car and is now the chief executive of Lucid, said in an interview in June. “Tesla probably wouldn’t exist today. Really, the U.S. government made the success that it is today. That is a hell of an achievement.”

Great article from the ("How Biden’s E.V. Plan Could Help Tesla and Squeeze Toyota") about President Biden's goals for EVs. The Biden Administration is aiming for 50% of new car sales to be EVs.

Which EV are you getting?

In 2018, NYC peaker plants produced 1,837,365 tons of carbon dioxide. Yuck!

Battery storage will allow us to achieve a better future by harvesting renewable energy. Batteries will allow NYC to stop using peaker plants when demand increases.

Solar panels made by forced labor in China are not sustainable and extremely unethical. We should not support this. We need solar manufacturing in the US, let's create jobs and increase our infrastructure.

Senator Jon Ossoff is poised to introduce legislation establishing a tax credit for domestic solar manufacturers that he hopes will pass as part of a larger infrastructure package later this year.

Think about that.

Every minute when data centers aren't preforming at peak hours, they spend on average $5,600. 5,600 times 60 is $336,000 for one hour of downtime! Imagine how much of that price you can offset with renewable energy.
