Sophia is a United States Army veteran, energy executive, philanthropist, and proud Jamaican immigrant.⁠

Born in the rural parish of St. Mary, Jamaica, she was raised by her grandmother, Miss Ceceline Blake, and her mother, Paulette Blake, in a house where there was never quite enough and somehow always enough for one more person at the table. She left Jamaica as a young woman, served in the United States Army, including a deployment to Germany during the Bosnian peacekeeping mission, and later supported military and government operations across the Middle East and Africa. She has since built a career in energy spanning utility and competitive power markets, and has traveled to more than fifty countries.⁠

She has chaired statewide organizations, holds gubernatorial and cabinet appointments in Florida, and leads the veterans employee resource group at her company. Her debut memoir, Hands That Built Me: A Memoir of Faith, Grit, and Giving Back, is her tribute to the people whose hands built hers.⁠
