The E-2 visa process can feel exciting fast… and overwhelming even faster.

A strong E-2 application usually starts before the business search:
✔ knowing your capital
✔ understanding your traceable funds
✔ choosing a business you can realistically operate
✔ building a clear strategy from the start

The more clarity you have before you invest, the stronger your E-2 strategy tends to be! ✨

POV: you almost bought a dolphin tour company in Florida… until you realized one question could break the entire business.

At first, it looked perfect:
☀️ Florida
🐬 Boat tours
💰 Profitable
🇺🇸 E-2 eligible

Then reality hit.

“What happens if one of the captains gets sick?”

Not metaphorically.
Literally.

Who runs the tours?
Who steps in?
Could we legally and realistically operate this business day-to-day?

That question changed everything.

One of the biggest mistakes E-2 buyers make is focusing only on:
❌ the visa
❌ the lifestyle
❌ the numbers

…and forgetting to ask:
“Does this business actually fit MY skills, experience, and life?”

A business can look amazing on paper and still be the wrong fit operationally.

The goal isn’t just getting approved.
It’s building a life you can actually sustain after approval.

One of the biggest misconceptions about the E-2 visa is that you need all your investment funds sitting in cash savings.

In many cases, other sources may qualify too - including:
• HELOCs
• investments
• gifted funds
• lines of credit
• proceeds from asset sales

What matters most is being able to clearly document:
✔ where the funds came from
✔ how they moved
✔ that the source is lawful and traceable

A strong paper trail matters just as much as the number itself.

When we first started looking at Florida, I thought we had to be in one of the “main” cities.

Miami, Fort Lauderdale, maybe West Palm.

But once we actually got here and started exploring, we realized those aren’t always the best fit. Especially for families.

Some of the best places are a little quieter.
A little more spread out.
And honestly just easier to live in day to day.

We ended up spending a lot of time driving around different areas before landing where we did.

And what mattered most wasn’t what looked exciting online.
It was what felt sustainable in real life.

Things like:
• Can we picture daily life here?
• Is it safe and calm?
• Would this actually feel like home, not just a vacation?

If you’re thinking about moving to Florida, don’t just look at the obvious cities.

There are so many good options that don’t get talked about enough.

If you want more insight into what moving here actually looked like for us, I break it all down in the link in my bio! 🇨🇦 to 🇺🇸

Like… nothing was technically wrong. I had a career. A routine. A life that looked “fine” on paper, but I couldn’t shake the feeling that something was off.

And the hardest part?

I kept trying to convince myself to ignore it. I told myself “just be grateful” and “stop overthinking”, “just settle into it”

But that feeling doesn’t go away when you ignore it.

It just gets louder.

What I didn’t realize at the time is that I wasn’t lacking courage.

I was lacking clarity!

These are the 3 things that helped me finally get there:

1. I got honest about what I actually wanted
Not what looked good on paper. Not what other people expected. Just what kind of life I wanted day to day.
2. I stopped ignoring what felt off
The stress, the routine, the lack of control. Those weren’t random thoughts. They were signals.
3. I took small steps before I felt ready
We didn’t have it all figured out. We just started exploring. That’s when things started to make sense.

That process is what eventually led us to moving to the U.S. and buying a business.

And I won’t pretend it was easy.

Starting over in a new country with no family around while learning how to run a business is a lot.

But it also gave us a level of control over our life that we didn’t have before!!

If you’re in that stage where something feels off but you can’t fully explain it yet… I get it.

Start there.

If you want a clearer picture of what this path actually looks like, I put everything we learned into one place. It’s linked in my bio if you want to go deeper! :)

Here’s why I always recommend hiring a lawyer for the E-2 visa 👇

Before we went through this process, I honestly didn’t realize how much goes into it.

It’s not just filling out forms or showing you have money to invest! It’s how your entire case is structured and presented: your business, your funds, your plan, everything needs to make sense together.

There are a lot of small details that matter more than you’d expect. How your investment is set up. How your money is transferred. Whether the business actually qualifies. Things that aren’t always obvious when you’re just starting to research.

We had over 100 pages in our application. And looking back, I can’t imagine trying to piece that together on our own while also buying a business and planning a move.

Could you do it without a lawyer? Maybe! But when you’re investing this much and building a whole new life around it, it didn’t feel like the place to cut corners.

For us, it wasn’t just about getting approved. It was about knowing we did it the right way from the start.

If you’re reading this and exploring Canada to USA, this is one step I’d seriously consider 🤍

If you’re new here, this is what I talk about 👇

My husband and I moved from Canada to Florida
by buying a business through the E-2 visa

No job offer
No sponsorship
No lottery

Just a process we followed step by step

Before this, we had no experience in the industry we bought into
and honestly… we had no idea what we were doing at the start

We just knew we didn’t want to stay stuck in the same routine

So if you’ve been feeling that too, this is your reminder that there are other options

This carousel is the high-level version
but there’s a lot more that goes into doing this properly

- how to choose the right business
• how much you actually need to invest
• how to structure it for approval
• what the process looks like from start to move

I put everything we learned into a step-by-step guide because I wish I had something like this when we started

It’s called the Canada → USA Blueprint
and it walks you through the full process

Start there, then decide if it’s the right path for you! LINK IN BIO!
