Today we did something very special for Mother’s Day! We went and picked cherries at Diablo Cherries in Brentwood. It was special to our family because our bees helped pollinate this orchard so that there would be cherries growing here this season. Days like these are when it all feels like it comes together, full circle. This is what it is all for, this is the literally fruits of our labor. It was an amazing experience, we picked a giant bucket of cherries! The owner of the farm was so sweet and insisted we take the bucket home no charge. We are so grateful to be part of this incredible agricultural community. Thank you we will be back and will be telling all our friends and family to come and pick cherries this season.

We are starting a new series of posts where every First Monday of the month, we are going to feature a post that highlights the businesses that kindly sell our honey in their stores. First up, we are going to highlight one of our very first supporters, Sweet Pea’s Nursery located at 891 Alamo Dr. Vacaville, CA. They are a family owned nursery that sells so much more than just plants. They have sold our honey for 5 years now! They also sell organic fruit plants, veggies starts, hundreds of other various types of indoor and outdoor plants, as well as feed products for multiple species of animals and so many fun items for your home, garden and so much more. We personally can’t even drop honey deliveries off without finding a fun item to take home with us. If you’re headed to the Bay Area or local to Solano County, it is a must stop destination. Just as they support and prop up so many local businesses within their store and at their markets, please do the same for them and go check out their amazing store! Thanks for your continued support Sweet Pea’s.

Your perfect, weed-free lawn is an ecological dead zone.

Green. Manicured. Lifeless.

The American lawn:
→ 40 million acres of turfgrass in the US
→ More acreage than any irrigated crop
→ Uses 3 TRILLION gallons of water per year
→ Receives 80 million pounds of pesticides annually
→ Costs the average homeowner $1,000-3,000/year
→ Supports almost ZERO wildlife

Meanwhile:

→ 70% of native bees nest IN THE GROUND — your lawn chemicals poison their nests
→ Clover (which you spray) is one of the most important bee food sources
→ Violets (which you pull) are the ONLY food source for fritillary butterfly caterpillars
→ Creeping thyme and self-heal (which you kill) feed dozens of pollinator species

The "weeds" you're killing are the food supply.

WHAT A WILDLIFE-FRIENDLY LAWN LOOKS LIKE:

→ Mow high (3.5-4 inches) — taller grass hides ground-nesting bee entrances
→ Leave clover, violets, and self-heal (they're free pollinator gardens)
→ Mow every 2-3 weeks instead of weekly (lets flowers bloom between cuts)
→ Stop broadleaf herbicides (they kill everything that isn't grass)
→ Leave bare soil patches in sunny spots (ground-nesting bees need them)
→ Replace sections with low-growing native ground cover

Your yard doesn't have to look "wild."

It just has to stop being dead.

The greenest lawn on the block is often the most lifeless.

The "messy" one with clover? That's the one the bees are counting on. 🐝

This was a year of new beginnings and savoring the moment. We moved our business out to the delta officially and we welcomed our newest addition, Beatrix. This year was full of major adjustments and learning how to live a new lifestyle with a new child, in a new place. We are looking forward to this next year of pollination contracts, harvesting of all the honey and moving forward in our business together as a family of four. Thank you for all your support and love. We appreciate every person who have been following along so far.
