Most mixers are still running on grease that’s 10–20+ years old. Over time it separates, leaks, and loses its lubricating properties. Preventative maintenance can help keep your mixer running for many more years.

🛠️ What does a KitchenAid tune-up actually include?

Many people think a tune-up is just adding fresh grease.

It’s much more than that.

When I service a KitchenAid mixer, I completely disassemble it so I can inspect every major component—not just the parts you can see.

On every full service I:

✅ Remove all of the old grease

✅ Inspect every gear for wear or damage

✅ Check bearings, shafts, and bushings

✅ Inspect the electrical components

✅ Replace worn parts (only with your approval)

✅ Repack the gearbox with fresh food-grade grease

✅ Reassemble, adjust, and test every speed

The second photo is a great example of why preventative maintenance matters. That grease has broken down over time and no longer protects the gears the way it should.

These mixers are built to last for decades—but like a car, they need maintenance to keep performing their best.

Another KitchenAid saved!

This mixer came in with a broken bowl-lift support arm, making it unusable. After a complete teardown, I replaced the damaged lift arm, inspected the internal components, cleaned everything, and gave it a full service before putting it back together.

Now it’s ready to head home and get back to making bread, cookies, and family memories.

I don’t just swap parts - I inspect every mixer to make sure it’s ready for years of reliable service.

This customer waited until her mixer failed.

From the outside, it looked great and still mixed… until it didn’t.

Once I opened it, the grease had broken down and the worm gear had stripped. At that point, it was no longer just a maintenance job—it required replacement parts.

33 years old and getting a second chance.

This early 90s KitchenAid Ultra Power came in tired, worn, leaking grease, and showing every bit of its age. Today it’s fully torn down on the bench getting cleaned, inspected, serviced, and brought back to life piece by piece.

That’s the part most people never see:

I picked up this late-80s KitchenAid mixer from someone who had purchased a new one because this one “wasn’t running right.” She really didn’t want to get rid of it because it had been a gift from her mother.

After disassembling it for a full inspection and cleaning, I found the gears were actually in perfect condition. The real issue turned out to be a loose rear bearing bracket and a failed speed control plate.

I’ll be giving her a call to offer the mixer back for my regular service price before I list it for sale. These older machines are built extremely well and are often worth repairing.
