The 15-Minute Bid Review That Saves Contractors Thousands

Before you submit your next bid, spend 15 minutes checking these three numbers against your takeoff:

1. Labor hours vs. crew size. If your takeoff calls for 400 labor hours and you have a four-man crew, that is two and a half weeks of work, not two. A slipped schedule means overtime or penalties.

2. Material price date. Lumber and shingle prices change every quarter. If you plug a three-month-old supplier quote into today's bid, your margin disappears before the job even starts.

3. Scope gaps. Never skip the notes section on the plans. Lines that say "contractor to verify" often hide $2,000 to $5,000 of work.
