Alright guys we made it to March! Although if you’re here in southern New England it certainly doesn’t look like it. Nonetheless we got a lot going on this month.

If you have the ability to keep your trees from freezing it’s a great month to start repotting all your cold hardy trees. Don’t let them freeze though.

Start pruning your junipers and thinning them out if necessary. I’m sure many of you will be shocked by how much growth the put on over the winter if you have them light.

Prune your maples and other desirous trees before they start pushing out their foliage.

Start prepping your soil if you havnt already and sift to the appropriate sizes for your tree.

Don’t be alarmed. This is still the same Meraki Bonsai we just changed our logo. Hope you like it. The tree in the logo is one of my actual trees. I’ll upload a picture of the actual tree for everyone to see this week.

So it’s January up here in New England and if your in my neck of the woods you got a decent amount of snow this week. But January is actually a great time to be pruning you maples. With no leaves on them you can see the entire branch structure and every individual bud. Prune out any overly strong branches, those branches that are outside the silhouette and any junctions that have three or more branches growing from the same spot, cut those back to two. Good luck.
