Only about one in four people with disabilities are employed, compared with nearly two-thirds of people without disabilities. That gap isn't about a lack of opportunity; it's about the complexity of the systems people have to navigate to get there.

Our new insight looks at why benefits counseling has become a key piece of workforce infrastructure, and what a systems approach to disability employment looks like in practice. Read more: https://bit.ly/3SGGs8p

Kim Christoforou, Project Management Coordinator and SoleMates captain, shares her story, pictured here with her family at last year's UMass Cancer Walk:

"I'm proud to be a captain of the ForHealth SoleMates Team—I helped found the team in 2021 to give our organization a way to come together, fundraise, and honor the importance of cancer research—and I've served as captain ever since. My husband, children, and extended family join me each year; our kids have been part of the walk since they were babies, riding along in strollers while their grandmothers walk with us. Like so many others, we have all been impacted by cancer, and I've also lost loved ones to this disease, which makes this walk especially meaningful to me. One of my favorite memories of the Cancer Walk event is the tradition we've built together each year to make an impactful difference—with my family and with the growing SoleMates team, which has become its own extended family united in support of cancer research year after year."

Thank you for everything you do for this team, Kim!

The UMass Cancer Walk will be held Sunday, Sept. 27 at Polar Park. Visit the ForHealth Consulting UMass Cancer Walk SoleMates Page to learn more and contribute to the cause: https://bit.ly/4vLel5i

Our average disability determination application processing time is just 45 days, far below the 189-day federal average.

Our clinicians conduct disability evaluations in-house, reducing the need for independent/consultative exams. The result: meaningful time and cost savings, and faster, more accurate decisions.

This is powered by integrated clinical, vocational, and regulatory expertise, including licensed physicians, psychologists, registered nurses, and nationally certified vocational rehabilitation counselors who work directly with your team. It was great connecting with colleagues at last month!

One topic we often hear about is how states can strengthen Medicaid as the payer of last resort. Our new infographic breaks down how we supported one state's Medicare Enrollment Expansion Initiative, identifying eligible Medicaid members aged 65+ and guiding them through Medicare enrollment with a member-centered approach.

We test blood specimens collected from 500+ newborns every day, and as leaders in population-based newborn screening, we screen for 60+ conditions, including phenylketonuria, cystic fibrosis, and spinal muscular atrophy.

Following recent advances in the treatment of spinal muscular atrophy, our program was an early adopter in implementing this testing. Since then, we have enabled early detection and rapid connection to care for affected infants, significantly improving outcomes across New England. We continuously innovate to stay at the forefront of emerging needs and technologies.

Sarah Goff, New England Newborn Screening Program and UMass Cancer Walk SoleMates captain, shares her story and the very special reason she walks, pictured here on the left with Eileen Fitzgerald:

"Cancer has touched the lives of many people I care about. I'm walking to do my small part to support lifesaving research, especially in honor of Eileen Fitzgerald (former colleague and SoleMates captain), who is currently kicking brain cancer's butt! Every donation helps bring us closer to a future without cancer, and what an amazing world that would be."

Sarah, thank you for everything you do for this cause!

The UMass Cancer Walk will be held Sunday, Sept. 27 at Polar Park. Visit the ForHealth Consulting UMass Cancer Walk SoleMates Page to join the team and/or donate to the cause, which raises funds for cancer research. Plus, donations made this week through Sept. 4 will be matched dollar for dollar by Carr Financial Group, up to $15,000! https://bit.ly/4vLel5i
