In lieu of flowers, a gift made in John Scott's name is a meaningful way to carry forward the values he lived by—service, education, and professional generosity. His long involvement with ASID Illinois reflected his belief in education, mentorship, and lifting others within the design community.

The John Scott Legacy ASID Student Scholarship Fund will provide interior design students with greater opportunity to grow, connect, and build meaningful professional credentials through ASID Illinois—an organization that meant a great deal to John.

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of John Scott. He was a leader, peer, mentor and friend to many in the Chicagoland Interior Design community. Our thoughts are with John's family and friends.

John Scott, 72, of Western Springs and previously Oak Park and River Forest, died peacefully on Dec. 22, 2026. A proud ethnic Bohemian with a lifelong appreciation for the culture and cuisine of his Czech roots, he was particularly distressed by the procession of restaurant and bakery closings along...

Before and after photos of an Oak Park remodel. The before kitchen was fragmented by a powder room accessible from the hall. We relocated the powder room and increased the size of the kitchen by acquiring that space. We added another entry to the kitchen to provide better circulation. We replaced the floors in the kitchen to match the original floors through the rest of the house. The soft white perimeter cabinets brighten and open the space while the green island and coffee bar cabinets with the antique mesh provide warmth and a classic Oak Park feel.

As I was reading The NY Times this afternoon, I ran across an article about RH. It attempts to explain the furnishings sold there..
As Interior Designers we so often are explaining to our clients the difference between items made in the US versus and items made with less craftsmanship and high prices made outside the US in places like China etc.

My client’s shoe closet that we designed for their designer shoe collection that can almost double as an art installation in the foyer of their Lincoln Park high rise home.
It sure helps when we get to work with fun and creative clients…

Here are a couple of photos of a project in Lincoln Park, where we combined 2 units .Almost done.. One side is the kitchen and the other side is the living area.

My first call today was from a wonderful woman. She was cleaning and happened to turn her dining room chairs over to reveal a Keevan Sadock label. She explained that she is 80 years old and purchased the chairs when she was a single mom working for the government.
She remembered going to the Merchandise mart to select the chairs. The chairs are covered in corduroy and she explained that she was blessed to be able to buy quality that she has cherished all these years.
I feel so lucky to have had her reach out and tell her story, it reinforced the concept of buying quality instead of temporary furnishings.
