A tip from your CWPD arborist, if you see these hanging in your trees, remove them before the spring! This is a bagworm cocoon full of hundreds of eggs. If they hatch, they can defoliate the tree, and nearby trees, and can cause significant damage. They prefer evergreens, but will attack almost any tree. Be on the lookout!

EDITED TO ADD: We are located in Ohio. These are generally found in the eastern United States, as far west as Nebraska, north into New England and bordering the Gulf of Mexico south throughout Texas.

Did you know it’s poison ivy season? Here’s some tips to keep you safe while maintaining your landscape.
•Identify the plant. Leaves of three, leave them be! All plants have their own unique growth pattern. Poison ivy is notably grouped in leaves of three.
•Always wear gloves when hand pulling weeds to avoid contacting the poisonous oil secreted by the plant that will react miserably with your skin.
•If you do contact the toxic plant, immediately wash your hands and with Dawn dish soap to avoid spreading the plant oil to other parts of your body. Do not touch your eyes or face until you have cleaned your clothing and tools used during removal.
•Never burn poison ivy. Inhaling the smoke and vapors is deadly.
•Hire me, a professional horticulturist to identify and safely remove poison ivy and other pesky weeds from your landscape, thereby protecting you and your loved ones.
•Share these tips with a friend!

Watering new plants during the summer comes with a huge price tag because significant water is lost through evaporation. Besides, babysitting plantings isn’t on anyone’s to-do list.

As summer weather comes to an end, temperatures become favorable and we can begin to install new trees, shrubs and perennials with minimal watering to ensure a beautiful landscape for years to come. Message me for your landscape design, installation and maintenance needs!

When purchasing a home, are you considering your trees? When selling your home, are you considering your trees?

Trees can make 20% or more of your property’s value.
Immature trees need pruning to establish proper branch scaffolding to ensure ideal growth and long life. You will have healthier trees with less deadwood (deadwood attracts insects to your yard) by training immature trees now and that means less yearly maintenance and a longer life.
Older trees that have not been maintained can create a hazard and will definitely make a home buyer think twice. Crossing branches rub one another either killing one of the two or fuse together creating a weak point. Dense canopies resist the wind and lead to broken limbs in places you never intended. Homeowner responsibility includes pro-active tree care, in advance, to avoid incidents and gives you peace of mind.

Please don’t call that one guy who drives around with a chainsaw in the back of his truck. He just likes to cut stuff.
Please don’t call the large company with the high turnover and inexperienced workers. They only want your money.
