Breaking news! 🚨

Change the Air Foundation is proud to share that we helped spearhead another state bill proposal, Ohio HB 841 The Healthy Homes Program Act 🏛️, in a bipartisan step forward for mold awareness, safe indoor air🌬️, and healthier homes 🏡.

We are grateful to have pushed for this important bill proposal alongside our passionate Ohio volunteers, continuing our work to bring meaningful solutions and education forward to state General Assemblies across the country, fighting for communities impacted by unhealthy housing. 🙌

This is our fourteenth bill proposal we have helped get proposed since our launch as an organization in 2022.🎉

Highlights of the bill include:

• Establishes a statewide information and awareness program on mold, radon, lead, and carbon monoxide
• Educates the public on health risks, identification, and proper remediation practices, including the ANSI/IICRC S520 industry standard of care
• Launches a public awareness campaign with accessible resources for families and tenants
• Directs further study on the health effects of mold exposure in damp and water damaged buildings

A huge thank you goes out to our passionate Ohio policy volunteers. Your continued persistence, passion and advocacy made this possible.

Intelligent Design

Mold is actually closer to human DNA than it is to plant DNA which is why certain molds can trigger strong immune responses.

Our bodies and mold both rely on similar enzymes to break down and use nutrients.

1941: scientists used mold to break genetics wide open and proved that our genes control the chemistry inside our cells, an insight which still drives our understanding of human disease.

Confused Interstitial Spaces

Small attic cavities behind knee walls must be fully insulated from the home’s conditioned envelope.

When access doors lack proper insulation and weather sealing, warm moist air leaks in, condensing and driving mold growth on cold uninsulated surfaces.

💦Capillary Action📈

When water sits on your basement floor, the porous walls pull moisture upward into the gypsum core and paper of the drywall causing mold growth.

When the water dries up, the visible mold growth slows to a halt as well, but a microbial hot spot remains where the drywall attaches to the wall framing, creating an ideal climate for continued mold growth.

Where evaporation is restricted, such as seems or cavities, the heaviest contamination often develops.
