Part 2 of setting up our new downtown Columbus office location 👇

This week I’ve been dialing in the right products for an engineering/architecture firm with about 60 people back in the office full-time — and this part is way more important than most people think.

Every location is different.

What works at a warehouse or hotel won’t work here. For AECOM, the goal wasn’t just “fill a machine”… it was to build something people actually want to use every day.

Here’s where we landed:

• Keep the traditional machine for quick, familiar drinks (Coke, Dr Pepper, etc.)
• Use the new AI smart cooler for premium, better-for-you options

So instead of duplicating products, we created two experiences:

👉 Quick & easy
👉 Better & upgraded

In the smart cooler, we focused on:
• Energy drinks people actually buy (Celsius, Alani)
• Premium hydration (CORE, Smartwater, coconut water)
• Protein + functional drinks
• Higher-quality snacks like KIND bars, nuts, and Sahale cashews

The idea is simple:
Give people a reason to walk up… and then give them something worth buying.

Now we see what sells, adjust, and keep improving.

Tomorrow is install day — I’ll share how everything comes together once it’s live 👀

Starting a new Easy Eats location this week — and I thought it would be fun to walk through the process step by step.

This one is a downtown Columbus office with about 60 employees back in the office full-time. That matters more than people think, because the type of workplace really determines what kind of vending setup will actually work.

Step 1: Picking the right machines

Not every location should have the same setup.
A warehouse, a hotel, and an office all behave very differently.

For this location, the goal is:
• Easy grab-and-go access
• Better drink options (think energy, coffee, etc.)
• A setup that fits a more professional office environment

So instead of just dropping in standard vending machines, I’m planning the layout around how people here will actually use it.

Next step will be selecting the right products and pricing for this specific group.

More to come this week as I get everything ready for install on Friday 👀

Running a vending business involves a lot of things people see… like stocking machines, delivering snacks, and making sure everything works.

But there’s also the stuff behind the scenes — like realizing you should probably have a website and actual marketing materials so people know how to find you 😅

So I finally got around to putting together some business cards (with a QR code so people don’t have to type anything) and a website where businesses can learn about Easy Eats and request vending service.

Turns out running a small business means wearing a lot of hats… including “part-time marketing department.”

Today was one of those “behind the scenes” days running Easy Eats.

A location that had been doing really well recently closed its doors, which meant I had to empty, move, and store three large vending machines. Not the most glamorous part of the job, but definitely part of the reality of running a small business.

A few things I’ve learned that make moving and storing machines easier:

• Empty the machines completely first (saves a lot of weight)
• Label and organize product so restocking later is easier
• Keep machines upright whenever possible
• Secure doors and remove loose trays
• Store them somewhere dry and protected

Sometimes entrepreneurship looks like strategy and growth… and sometimes it looks like moving a few thousand pounds of equipment and organizing bins of snacks.

Either way, it’s all part of building something.

Today’s episode of “things they don’t show you about running a vending business.”

New machine delivered on a pallet.

Problem:
I don’t own a forklift.

Solution:
A couple boards, some careful maneuvering, and a healthy respect for gravity.

Small business ownership sometimes means becoming an amateur engineer for the day.

Machine safely off the pallet… and my back is still intact 😄

Pop Quiz: How much do each of these machines weigh? If you guessed “too much” you’d be right!

Each of these machine weighs over 700 pounds. So if you have to move them, you’d like it to be the last time 😎

A lesson I’ve learned running Easy Eats:

The equipment you have can shape the opportunities you pursue.

When a location is looking for vending, you design the solution around their needs. But when you have machines available — especially larger units — you shift your focus toward environments where that capacity makes sense.

It’s a balance of being proactive and being adaptable, and it’s a big part of what keeps this business interesting.

Always learning, always adjusting.

A little behind-the-scenes look at one of our locations this week 👀

Keeping machines stocked and running smoothly takes planning, inventory tracking, and a lot of attention to what people actually buy — not just what looks good on the shelf.

The goal is always the same:
Make sure everything works, stays fresh, and gives people a quick, reliable option when they need it.

Small details make a big difference in this business.

One of the realities of running a vending business that people don’t often see is that sometimes a great location can disappear overnight.

Yesterday I had a partner location unexpectedly close their doors, and it meant relocating three large machines that had been performing really well. Situations like this are never ideal, but they’re part of operating in the real world — businesses change, leases end, and you have to adapt quickly.

What I’ve learned is that success in this industry isn’t just about placing machines — it’s about staying flexible, maintaining strong relationships, and being ready to pivot when things shift.

The upside is that it creates an opportunity to bring those machines to new locations that can benefit from them, and to keep growing in new ways.

If you manage a facility in the Delaware County area and have ever considered adding vending or a self-serve market, I currently have a few high-capacity machines available and would be happy to connect.

Entrepreneurship definitely keeps you on your toes, but that’s part of what makes it rewarding.

Pretty excited to start rolling out these new AI-powered vending machines with Easy Eats 🙌

These units are a big step up from traditional vending — they’re fully cashless, self-serve, and use smart technology so customers can just grab what they want and go. No buttons, no hassle, just quick and convenient access to drinks and snacks.

The best part for businesses?
There’s no cost to have one installed.

Easy Eats handles everything — installation, stocking, and ongoing service — so it’s an easy way to add a great amenity for employees, customers, or guests without any extra work.

If you manage a location in the Delaware County / Lewis Center / Powell area and think something like this would be a good fit, feel free to message me. Happy to stop by and take a look.

Excited to keep bringing new options and better convenience to the community!

Route days 🚚

One of the most common questions I get is what actually goes into running vending locations — it’s a lot more than just stocking snacks.

Today’s stops included inventory checks, adjusting product mix based on what’s selling, and making sure machines are running perfectly. Small tweaks like product placement and pricing can have a big impact on performance.

The goal is simple: make sure every location has what people actually want, when they want it.

It’s a hands-on business, but seeing machines perform well for partners makes it worth it.

Running Easy Eats Vending alongside a full-time career has given me a whole new appreciation for what convenience really means.

Most people don’t think about it, but when a team has easy access to drinks and snacks, it improves the day-to-day experience at work — fewer interruptions, less time leaving the building, and a small perk that people genuinely appreciate.

Over the last year we’ve been expanding across Delaware County, and it’s been exciting to see how even a simple self-serve setup can make a difference for staff and customers.

If you manage an office, clinic, or facility and have ever thought about adding a beverage or snack solution, I’m always happy to chat and share what we’ve learned.
