During the early morning hours, one of our off-duty officers and a Patrol Specialist encountered a suspicious individual behind a property that has experienced prior attempted break-ins.

During the contact, a crowbar and drug paraphernalia were observed. The individual suddenly became aggressive and attacked both officers before fleeing into a wooded area. A search of the area was conducted, but the suspect was not located.

Thankfully, no injuries were reported.

Incidents like this are a reminder that every contact has the potential to change in an instant. Situational awareness, training, and preparedness are critical to staying safe in the field.

Today marked the transition of a newly acquired property upon arrival after the motel was abandoned by its former owners due to foreclosure. This location is not in good conditions and is serious safety concern's. Unfortunately, guests and staff were left with little notice regarding the closure.

Due to significant safety and operational concerns, as well as the fact that no staff had been left in place to manage the property, the motel ultimately had to be cleared and secured. During the transition process, it was determined that there were no valid agreements in place between the current ownership representatives and the former owner regarding continued occupancy of the property.

Working alongside the bank, other representatives, and other agencies involved, our team assisted in helping guests receive refunds and directed them toward alternative accommodations to ensure they had a safe place to stay.

Once the transition process was completed, we immediately began securing the property. New surveillance cameras were installed, new No Trespassing signs were posted, and arrangements were made for former guests to return with moving trucks to retrieve their belongings in an orderly manner.

This site will be actively security patrolled until further notice

While situations like this are never easy, the priority was ensuring the safety of everyone involved, protecting the property, and assisting affected guests through the transition process.

Make sure to stay weather aware this evening into tonight with severe weather possible. The greatest threat will be across northwest portions of central IN. Damaging wind gusts are the primary hazard with isolated tornadoes and large hail also possible. Localized flooding cannot be ruled out.
