⚠️ Local Alert – Improper “Shredding” Practice Puts Community Data at Risk
As a trusted provider of secure document destruction services in our region, we feel it's our responsibility to speak up.
We recently discovered that a company claiming to offer shredding services has been dumping full, un-shredded documents — with names, account numbers, and sensitive details fully visible — directly into a local recycling facility’s pile.
The recycler does not shred these materials. That means anyone could walk by, take photos, or walk off with stacks of sensitive records. Whether the documents are medical, financial, or legal in nature, this is a massive breach of trust and a serious privacy risk.
🔍 We have documented this behavior and reviewed the documents ourselves — the materials are not only whole, they are readable.
❗️Secure document shredding is not just about appearances — it’s about compliance with laws like HIPAA, GLBA, FACTA, and your ethical responsibility to protect your clients’ and customers’ personal information.
👉 If you're a local business, school, or medical practice, please double-check your shredding vendor. Ask:
Are they NAID AAA Certified?
Do they shred on-site, with proof?
Can you witness the shredding?
If you need help understanding what secure destruction looks like, we’re here. Whether or not you use us, we’ll happily guide you toward the right questions to ask. Your community — and your clients — deserve that care.
