My mom constantly getting rid of clutter, made our beds every day, had everything organized, and the house was pristine. All of these characteristics made our home a calm and happy environment. I carried on those traits when I went away to college and later moved into NYC on my own. But, I didn’t realize how important organizing was until I became a mother myself. It was that pivotal moment, that
I recognized the value of these principles instilled in me by my mother that would help me be a better mother. I realized that when I was most organized, I was most at peace in my mind, and in turn, so was my daughter. But as life goes, I had my second child 13 months after my first, my sister became ill with cancer, I was building a new home in Westfield, and my whole life became unraveled. It was in those moments of chaos, that I broke away from those principles/discipline that I once had. I quickly realized that its precisely in these moments of disarray that organization was one of the most important things that I had to be consistent with to give me the ability to find calm in the situation. Trust me, it wasn’t easy, and at times it wasn’t pretty or attainable. In getting back to organization, I transmitted calm to all those around me, including my children. I found organization made life easier for me, and it inspired me to think about how I can help make life easier for others. I am currently a stay-at-home mom, raising a 5-year-old daughter and 4-year-old son. I have a B.A. in Business Administration with a major in Finance and minor in Economics from the University of Delaware in 2001. I started working at Smith Barney in Operations, and quickly worked her way up to a Trader Assistant at Citigroup. I reached my personal career goal in 2005, as I accepted a job at Keefe, Bruyette, and Woods as an Equity Sales Trader where I spent 8 years before giving up my career to be with my sister and raise my family. After giving up a career as a sales trader on Wall Street, I realized being a full time mom is not too different. Demanding clients, pressure to please, constant deadlines, lots of multi-tasking, fast paced environment, and an ever-changing structure to your day. But the skills I have been able to build as a sales trader and a mom over the years has helped me acquire these traits:
- Disciplined
- Dedicated
- Great at Multi-tasking
- Fast thinker; fast paced
- Problem solver/solution oriented
- Client focused
- People pleaser
