FEMA's theme for this year's National Preparedness Month is to provide information and resources to empower older adults to make their own preparations. "Take Control in 1,2,3" encourages everyone, especially older adults, to become more prepared in three simple steps:

1) Assess your needs. Whether you have pets, children, a medical condition or a disability, it is important to what you and your family need to stay safe.

2) Make a plan. Plan what to do, where you would go and what to bring if a disaster strikes. Your emergency supply kit should include items that meet your specific needs.

3) Engage your support network. Get to know your neighbors because they, along with your family and friends, can be a support network before, during and after a disaster by providing emotional and practical support.

FEMA has a new webpage at Ready.gov/older-adults for preparedness messaging, graphics and resources.
