CALL IN SUSPICIOUS VEHICLES AT BUSINESSES AFTER HOURS:

Cities around the Ventura County are routinely being burglarized by crews looking to profit off of others.

The crews, who tend to be specialized in what they go after, include restaurant crews, pharmacy crews, vehicle catalytic converter crews, vehicle theft crews, and more.

The crews usually have at least two people, and sometimes multiple vehicles. If multiple people are observed in a vehicle parked by a closed business, people must not approach them to confront. The crews are sometimes known to have weapons, and have shown no hesitation to inflict violence towards law enforcement.

The suspicious vehicle should be called in to local law enforcement so they can investigate and talk with the people. Law enforcement can advise them to leave. If this is an ongoing issue with the same people trespassing after hours, law enforcement can be worked with to obtain such things as trespass warnings for further enforcement in keeping your property free of activity.

In this particular pictured incident, a suspicious vehicle was spotted at a Thousand Oaks gas station after hours. The incident became very dangerous when the driver fled from law enforcement in a vehicle pursuit, and went head-on in traffic lanes, ramming the pursuing Sheriff's sergeant.

The sergeant was not injured, and the suspect was taken into custody. Burglary tools were found inside the vehicle.

SUSPECT ARRESTED AFTER FIGHTING DEPUTIES DURING THEFT CALL MONDAY IN OAK PARK, VICTIM PRESSES CHARGES:

About 10:30am on Monday morning, May 1 of 2023, the Ventura County Sheriff's Department had responded to a theft call in Oak Park. The location was the CVS store by Lindero and Kanan Roads in Oak Park.

A Sheriff's deputy spotted a suspect running away in the area. Additional deputies responded to look for the man. After a few minutes, they were able to find him towards the back outside area of the store.

When deputies went to detain the man, he began fighting with them. He was taken into custody shortly after. Evidence was collected, and the investigation was ongoing.

How can we aid the Sheriff's deputies with calls such as this if you are the business or victim?

In this case, CVS chose to press charges for the theft. This gave the Sheriff's deputies their foundation to continue their search in arresting the suspect. When the victim chooses not to press charges, they are also choosing not to be a victim. The phrase goes, "No victim, no crime."

When victims choose not to be victims, there is not much law enforcement can do to help them. Pressing charges continues the legal process in helping to make criminals accountable for their actions. This tougher stance can help your property or business down the road as criminals will tend to search instead for softer targets.

Take the right stance for your area, and be safe out there!

HIKER RESCUED FRIDAY IN THOUSAND OAKS, VC FIRE GIVES SAFETY ADVICE AS WEATHER GETS HOTTER:

At 9:54am on Friday morning, April 21 of 2023, the Ventura County Fire Department and AMR paramedics were dispatched to a rescue call in Thousand Oaks. The location was off the Los Robles trails near the area of Moorpark Road and Greenmeadow.

Copter 8 from the Sheriff's Air Unit was also dispatched to assist. A woman suffered what appeared to be a lower leg injury. A medic from Copter 8 was lowered to the scene, while VC Fire ground units made ground access.

The woman was driven out to the parking lot where AMR was waiting. The woman was transported by AMR to the hospital.

As the weather is getting hotter and more people are hitting the trails after all the recent rain events, VC Fire at the scene offered some safety tips:

* Bring plenty of water with you to stay hydrated.

* Snakes are out! Keep an eye out so you do not bother each other, and give them plenty of space.

* Keep a charged phone with you in the event you have to callin an emergency.

* If out at night, use the light on the phone to make yourself visible. VC Fire said the light at night stands out like a beacon.

SHOUT OUT TO THE VENTURA COUNTY AREA DISPATCHERS FOR NATIONAL PUBLIC SAFETY TELECOMMUNICATORS WEEK!

"Not all heroes wear capes, some wear headsets!"

During the week of April 13 of 2023, got an invite from Jose of the Sheriff's Communications Center to visit the hard working staff and dispatchers working for the Sheriff's Office!

In observing the National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week, the dispatchers and staff took the opportunity to have a little fun, and dress up as characters from Wizard of Oz!

In talking with the supervision staff of the Sheriff's center, some of the very important aspects of being a dispatcher were brought up.

Dispatchers and call takers are the first line when people experiencing emergencies call for help. Treating everyone with respect, and recognizing that everyone's emergencies are important to them, are strong motivators in trying to get people the help they need.

When calls have risen to the level of dispatch, officer safety becomes very important as well. Dispatchers monitor the radio traffic, what the deputies need, where they are, and if they need help themselves.

A love of the job is key to what dispatchers do. A willingness to serve people, multi-tasking during emergencies, calmly being able to perform under pressure, and problem solving are just a few aspects routine to their jobs.

Another key aspect is "being ready for the big one". While there are times when things are quiet, and not much is going on, dispatchers remind and keep themselves ready that a major incident could break out at any time.

After listening to and handling uniquely tragic calls that can cause an emotional response, supervisors check on the staff to make sure they are coping well before moving on to the next call.

During the recent rains that caused extensive flooding and swift water rescues in Ventura and Ojai, the normal call volume of about 300 to 600 calls in a 24 hour day to the Sheriff's Dispatch was experienced in just a few hours.

Thank you to the first line of defense and all the dispatcher staffs serving the Ventura County and beyond!

It's that time of year when familes of ducks with their babies in tow start getting spotted!

What does this potentially mean for your property? Familes of ducks tend to gravitate towards roadways of travel, storm drains, and also pools. The following are suggestions in potential situations where ducks can find themselves in distress.

If the ducks block a roadway, law enforcement can respond if this is causing a traffic hazard with the potential for injury or an accident to occur.

The local fire department will also respond for these public service calls where ducks get stuck in a drain. They will even go into storm drains if possible to fish out stuck ducks.

If ducks are unable to jump out of a pool they find themselves in, people can carefully use a pool net to gently fish out the little guys so they can be on there way.

Be on the lookout and be safe!
