Tesla made a major update to their dashcam system over the holidays, so we performed some testing to get a feel for it.

As of vehicle software version 2025.44.25, Tesla is embedding Supplemental Enhancement Information (SEI) directly into the video stream… and the data are plentiful! Here’s what you get for every video frame:

- Speed
- Gear state
- Pedal position
- Steering wheel angle
- Blinker status
- Autopilot state
- GPS location and heading
- Tri-axial acceleration

On top of that, they released an official, open-source tool where you can drag and drop the videos directly into the browser to watch the video with the telemetry data synchronized. You can even export a CSV if you want to performed a more detailed analysis. A link to the tool is below.

If you want to play around with some of the data, shoot us a message and we'll send you a video.

The latest episode of Data Driven explores the Bendix Data Recorder (BDR) with Matt DiSogra and Jeffrey Hirsch, discussing the immense value of Bendix data, how they’re acquired, and the innovative methods developed to translate the data into a usable report.

It’s a must-listen for anyone interested in heavy vehicle forensics.

Key Takeaways
- BDR outperforms engine-based EDRs by nearly every measure, offering richer, more reliable data.
- Data acquisition is possible via the DLC using ACom (if systems are intact).
- Raw hex data is stored in the HTML version of the recovered DTC report.
- Translation options: Send the report to Bendix, use the method outlined in the guests’ SAE paper, or work with Delta |v| for expert translation.

As Matt puts it, the BDR is “a better data recorder by almost every measure.” If you’re not prioritizing Bendix data, this episode will probably change your mind.
