Your provisional is a 12 month timer.
A provisional patent application is not a patent. It is a spot in line: it locks in your filing date, lets you say patent pending, and starts a 12 month clock. Before it runs out you have to file the full, non-provisional application, the one that actually gets examined. Miss the date and your spot in line expires.
Treat those 12 months as your launch window. Prototype it, map what is already selling, get real factory quotes, check the name. Your patent attorney handles the filing. You handle the business.
Not legal advice. Your patent attorney confirms what applies to your filing.
