Last night Laurie took charge for the last time after 50 years as Clinical Manager ICU at Memorial Pembroke. She was surprised with over 50 staff and family. There were tears and laughter in celebration of a life and career well lived. She arrived for her last shift February 28 and will leave March 1 Sunday morning after caring for her patients all night. She is absolutely amazing! Her staff call her their Work Mom and she loves them!

Our last guests of the season left yesterday. We typically stay open Easter through Columbus Day. Last year Adam Berry asked if I could stay for an investigation of the Inn for paranormal activity. Adam was one of the first Ghosthunters team that did a feature of the Inn. Season six titled Inn of the Dead. It is also on YouTube. Adam asked if this year we would continue as well as guests participating staying over for a three day weekend. Not knowing what to expect, I was pleasantly surprised with some of the nicest guests.I had no idea when I bought the Inn that it came with three ghosts. They are very happy and keep an eye on the Inn when I go to Florida for the winter.The nine guests that stayed and investigated with two dozen others that only did the investigation Saturday night had a great time. As always, I enjoy reading the notes in the rooms after checkout. This mother and daughter had a wonderful time in a waterfront suite. I love cooking breakfast for our guests. Time to wrap up the season and get the Inn ready for a sleepy winter on Cape Cod.

53 years ago at 19 I met an amazing 22 year old nurse. We were caring for a little boy on a ventilator. She was amazing. The boy received a miracle and I received the best gift of my life. When I asked her if she wanted to go to a party she responded potty? I had never met anyone from New England and had never seen snow. We were married within months. Laurie still is Clinical Manager of ICU and the staff surprised her with a party tonight. She had a milestone birthday and we are so proud of her!

Krystin and her family love picking apples in October. They had a great time in this beautiful weekend in Massachusetts. I never understood as a kid why we could not grow apples in Florida. We could walk in the yard and pick oranges, tangerines, grapefruit, loquats, kumquats, cherries, peaches, bananas, mangos and avocados. The apples we bought in the store did not compare with the beautiful fresh picked apples in New England orchards.

Please remember to donate and encourage those able to donate. I left the Orleans Waterfront Inn at 11 and was back by noon after giving blood at Church of the Holy Spirit. The staff and volunteers were gracious and appreciative. Remember all those affected by the storms- not only those in need of blood but there are many donors not able to give. Please help any way possible.

Thank you all for the kind birthday wishes. Five of the grandkids joined me in blowing out the candles for my 72nd birthday. It was a beautiful day walking to 8 am Mass at Saint Joan and saying the rosary. We spent another 2 hours in a Eucharistic Retreat. Evening sets a little earlier over the Cove view in the Orleans Waterfront Inn Dining Room. Laurie's father did the painting and now overlooks his great grandchildren.

As a child our Mom taught us to treat guests like family. She had us 7 children help in many ways to make our guests comfortable. I carried this ethic through many years running hospitals and my healthcare and hospitality consulting company Maas Group, Inc. My brother said I have the most fun job as all I have to do is be nice to people. 28 years ago our family bought the Orleans Inn Orleans Waterfront Inn and kept that feeling with our 8 children and 12 grandchildren. It is our sense of purpose we love. Our first guests of the season were absolutely amazing. It feels great to be appreciated. This note was left in their room as the most thoughtful gesture. God Bless all our wonderful guests.
