Bid on Pop Art History – Lot 1: Andy Warhol Campbell’s Soup Shopping Bag!
Own a piece of Andy Warhol’s iconic legacy with this rare Campbell’s Tomato Soup Shopping Bag, a vibrant screenprint in color on a paper shopping bag, created in October 1966. Commissioned by The Institute of Contemporary Art in Boston, this limited-edition work transforms an everyday object into a bold statement of Pop Art, reflecting Warhol’s fascination with consumer culture and mass production. Measuring H 19.5" x W 17", the bag features bright, unfaded colors with slight age toning, minor surface marks, and some wrinkles, preserving its authentic charm. As one of Warhol’s most recognizable motifs, the Campbell’s Soup image—first debuted in his 1962 Campbell’s Soup Cans series—redefined modern art, making this bag a coveted collector’s item.

The Emicon keyboard synthesizer, a 32-note monophonic keyboard instrument based on the oscillator technology used in the earlier theremin box, was manufactured by Emicon, Inc., Deep River, Connecticut, starting in 1932.

Until this rare circa 1932 example surfaced last year, it was thought that there was only one surviving example, which is held in the Charles D. Stein Collection of Early Electronic Instruments at the National Music Museum, Vermillion, South Dakota. The 35½" x 24¼" x 16" instrument brought $27,600 (est. $10/1000) at Westport Auction, Norwalk, Connecticut, April 25.
