Nice soaking and much needed rainfall over night.

06/01/2026

Week of June 3 to 9 2026

WEATHER TIDBIT
We finally received some much needed rain late Sunday and early Monday. I totaled nearly a half inch. For the month of May, I totaled 2.47" which is just over an inch less than normal. With the late surge in above normal temperatures the last week of May, we finished near normal on temperatures; otherwise, we were on pace to finish cooler than normal. It should be also noted this past May didn't feature many thunderstorms, windy days or smoky skies. This week's forecast calls for above normal temperatures and the threat of showers and thunderstorms. Nature Notes: Red-wing Blackbirds are aggressive ( I was dived bombed on a run!), Cottonwood seed season is here, clover is seeding and dandelion season is tapering.

WEATHER TIDBIT
We totaled some much-need rain late Sunday and very early Monday. I totaled 1.46 inches, ending a nearly 3-week dry spell. Our last significant rain was back on April 27 with 1.30 inches. One interesting tidbit is how dry our air has been. Dew points have been in the 20's, 30's, and occasionally in the 40's. This has made outdoor activity very pleasant. The sun is still hot but at least it has been very comfortable to be outside. The main reason for our dry air was a stubborn upper level Low over central Canada, bringing us the cooler and drier air. That is expected to change this week as the upper level winds will flatten and we'll feel a little more humidity. The fields of dandelions have changed from yellow to seedling. Baby ducks have appeared on Peppertree pond. A big thanks to those who attended my BreadEx talk on Climate. I look forward to doing more. Contact me.

Week of May 13 to 19 2026

WEATHER TIDBIT
We're experiencing a nice run of "dry" weather. Although lawns look green and lush, we could use a bit of precipitation. We did have a minor passing morning light rain before sunrise on Saturday. Maybe some of you early risers that went fishing bumped into one. It was short and only generated 0.02" of precipitation. Otherwise, this past weekend which included Mother's Day, was very pleasant. Skies overall were mostly sunny, a bit breezy, with highs on the cooler side. Lakes statewide were ice-free. The upper level Low, which has been centered over Canada and responsible for our unseasonably cold weather will weaken and we should have a nice warm-up of above normal temperatures. Speaking Note: I’ll be giving a speech on Twin City Climate on Thursday, May 14 at 6:00pm at White Bear Lake United Methodist Church. Join me! You’ll be a Twin City Weather Expert when I’m done. It’s free and complimentary tacos served. Email me for more info at [email protected].

Week of April 29 to May 5 2026

WEATHER TIDBIT
Our days of mixing of hot weather with cold swings continued this past week. We’re starting to mix in thunderstorms with our rain showers and we should become more severe weather aware. This past weekend we mixed in some rain activity that was more of a nuisance. Fortunately much of the rain activity was confined to the morning hours, leaving us plenty of dry weather for afternoon and evening activities. A morning thunderstorm on Monday may have woken you up but a dry week was in store for us. This weekend looks very promising as it looks neither hot nor wet.

Astro note: Saturn and Mars rise together as morning planets this month.

Important dates: Cinco de Mayo: Tuesday, May 5. Fishing Opener: Saturday, May 9. Mother's Day: Sunday May 10. Memorial Day: Monday May 25.

Week of April 22 to 28 2026

WEATHER TIDBIT
It would be nice to get a weekend with two nice days. So far this month we haven’t enjoyed a weekend without rain, snow, wind or cold. Saturday was the nicer of the two weekend days, if you didn’t mind the gale force winds. Sunday we woke to a coating of snow on the ground. The sun made quick work of the snow but temperatures stayed in the 40’s. The most exciting weather was on Friday when a series of thunderstorms rolled through. We had our first taste of some real humidity (with dew points in the 60’s) also on Friday. Temperatures this week rebounded but some cooler temperatures are forecasted for this weekend. Astro note: Jupiter will be the bright planet near the moon on Wednesday evening.

Did anyone else experience the temperature drop? I went for a run the temperature was 69 and the dew point was 65. It was humid!

The storms and front really cooled us off.
