Hi, my name is Marydee Mock and I've been working in the log home industry since 1997. My interest in log homes started just where everyone’s begins…with a dream of living the log home lifestyle. Progress update. The purlins are all in place and the tongue-and-groove roof boards are being installed on this modified hybrid Princeton in Maine. Soon the client’s home will be weather-tight.

Two people can build the same home and end up with very different total costs.

The difference may have little to do with the floor plan. One property might be level, cleared, and easy to reach. Another may need extensive clearing, a long driveway, blasting ledge, a deeper foundation, longer utility runs or special delivery planning.

Those site costs are separate from the materials package, but they can significantly shape your budget.

Before you settle on a home, ask a local contractor or site professional to help you understand the land. That conversation can keep a beautiful property from creating an unpleasant budget surprise later.

Using a general rule of thumb, a completed home could land closer to $300,000 to $350,000 when all construction work is contracted out. This can change with labor rates, site conditions, design choices, and the level of finish.
