About Robert Murray:

Prior to helping form Gambit Consulting Group, Robert Murray has had a varied professional career and has either worked for or with some of the largest companies in North America in both sales and operational capacities. Although the bulk of his career has been focused on the automotive industry, he has also worked in the tech industry, as well as having also owned his own businesses in the food and beverage and security consulting industries. He has also spent the last 10 years as a contract consultant for The Gerson Lehrman Group (GLG) and Guidepoint Global Advisors. How do you treat your employees?

Many times, your employees are the first and last ones to interact with the customer. How are they treating that special customer? Do they show appreciation to the customer for the their business? Do they thank them for their patronage? If they are not respecting the customer, you probably will not see that customer again. Chances are, it is the owners fault.

How employers treat their employees means everything. If you do not respect your employee, they will not respect your customer. As an employer, you do not have to go broke retaining employees; you simply have to treat them fair and as a human being. Many companies treat employees as only a number. They expect 150% hard work with not even offering a single "thank you." This will diminish an employee's morale and their attitudes will reflect in their day to day interactions with customers.

Employers, simply try giving your employees a sincere "thank you" when they do a good job. Try actively listening when an employee communicates information to you. Show that employee respect and they will in turn show that same respect to your customer. Also, bonuses when business is booming never hurts!
