My aha moment came unexpectedly on a Black Friday…
I spent $600 on a Facebook ad campaign over 4 days in November 2018.
When it was done, I had generated just under $20,000 in sales.
Insane, right?
I’d never made that much money in a single month.
Before that run, I had three things going for the business:
- Decent product photography
- A Shopify online storefront
- A consistent posting schedule
But what I’d never done was run a legitimate paid ad campaign.
And that experiment didn't just teach me about Facebook ads either.
More importantly, it blew through every ceiling I had about what was possible for a small shop.
Two years later, during that same November stretch in 2020, we broke $100,000 for the month and did around $60,000 in two days.
I share that because most guys building furniture businesses are asking the wrong questions.
They're obsessing over:
- The table saw upgrade
- Whether their joinery is tight enough
- How to level up the craft
Those are fine questions for a hobbyist.
The questions that actually grow a business are about:
- Lead flow
- Ad spend
- Production capacity
- When to bring on a helper
Yes… craftsmanship gets you in the game, but marketing is what determines how far you’ll actually go.
