Greenwich Fire Department Begins Major SCBA Replacement Project
Yesterday, the Greenwich Fire Department took another important step in a major capital project to replace all of the department’s Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) this year.
The department received 100 new SCBA cylinders and a number of new face masks, marking the beginning of a project that will span several months and ultimately provide new SCBA equipment for all of our members.
Our current SCBA units have reached the end of their 15-year service life, making replacement necessary to ensure our firefighters have the safest and most reliable respiratory protection available.
Selecting our next generation of SCBA was a thorough process that included:

Over the coming months, the department will continue receiving and replacing equipment while conducting training for all members to ensure everyone is familiar and proficient with the new SCBA before it becomes fully operational.
A project of this size would not be possible without the support of our community and town leadership. We would like to thank the Town of Greenwich Board of Estimate and Taxation (BET), Representative Town Meeting (RTM), and the First Selectman’s Office for their support and commitment to providing our firefighters with the equipment they need to safely protect our community.
