You may have heard the name Meagher County Stewardship Council - but what exactly is the MCSC, and why does it matter for Black Butte Copper?

The MCSC is an independent, community-led nonprofit made up of local residents from across Meagher County. They were formed to make sure the community always has a seat at the table, regardless of who owns or operates the mine.

For the past seven years, Black Butte Copper and the MCSC have been working together on a Community Benefits Agreement - a formal, binding commitment to ensure that if this mine moves forward, Meagher County sees real, lasting benefits.

Recently, we signed a Memorandum of Understanding that sets the framework for that agreement. It covers housing, environmental stewardship, youth education, emergency response, and long-term investment in this community.

Huge congrats to Joe Candrian and Kaye Ringer on graduating from Leadership 47!

This year-long program helps Meagher County residents develop leadership skills and deepen their understanding of our community.

Joe loved learning about local government and meeting future community leaders, and Kaye is inspired to dive deeper into volunteer work and community initiatives!

We're so proud to support our team members in programs like this - when they grow, our whole community grows. Way to go, Joe and Kaye!

Happy Geologists Day to our rock star team! 🪨

Without geologists, we wouldn't understand Earth's 4.5-billion-year history or know how to responsibly access the resources we need for modern life. From discovering the Johnny Lee deposit to understanding how it formed over a billion years ago, our geology team makes everything we do possible.

Thanks to the scientists who read the rocks and tell Earth's incredible story!

Big news for our community!

We’re thrilled to share that our team at Black Butte and the Meagher County Stewardship Council have reached a major milestone - a framework for a Community Benefits Agreement that will bring long-lasting benefits to Meagher County.

Since 2019, we’ve worked together with our neighbors through focus groups, town halls, and community meetings to make sure YOUR priorities are at the heart of this partnership. This framework includes:
- A Long-Term Community Investment Fund to support Meagher County for generations
- Educational programs for our local students
- Small business support through an Economic Development Revolving Loan Fund
- Environmental stewardship and transparency initiatives to protect the Smith River watershed

This is what “doing it right from the beginning” looks like - taking care of the community that supports us. We live here, we play here, and we’re committed to building a future we can all be proud of.

Wow! Did you know: for every 1 direct mining job created in the U.S., almost 2 indirect jobs follow!

Teachers, healthcare workers, restaurant staff, grocery store employees, hotel workers - the ripple effect touches everyone. This is what we mean when we talk about community impact!

When we succeed, our neighbors succeed. When local businesses thrive, we all thrive. Communities that prosper and grow together - that's the Montana way.
