Iowa’s Pre-Teen Auctioneer to Assist at Hawkeye FFA’s Member Services Auction

Brey Hansen’s journey into auctioneering started early. At just 8 years old, while riding in a semi with his dad, he heard Leroy VanDyke’s classic song “The Auctioneer.” Fascinated by the rhythm and speed of the chant, Brey set out to learn it himself. Using online videos, tongue twisters, and plenty of practice, he began building the skills that would soon turn into real opportunities.
By elementary school, Brey was already helping with local fundraisers, serving as the school’s young auctioneer for events selling jerseys, sports memorabilia, and other items. What began as a fun challenge quickly grew into a true passion.
Since then, Brey has stepped onto larger stages throughout the Midwest. He is the 2025 Oklahoma State Junior Auctioneer Champion and the 2026 Missouri Rookie First Runner-Up, and he has competed in the Iowa Rookie contests for the past two years. In 2026, he also took part in his first Ringman and Team competitions at the Iowa Convention. Brey is a member of the Iowa Auctioneers Association and has attended conventions in Iowa, Missouri, and Oklahoma as he continues to learn and grow in the profession.
FFA is especially important to Brey. He looks forward to the day he can officially represent his local chapter and has already volunteered at the past two Iowa FFA State Auctioneer competitions. He admires to serve as a spokesperson for the FFA auctioneering program and help encourage other young people to explore the auction industry.
Brey has donated his time and talent to numerous community events, including school fundraisers, the Benton FFA baked goods auction, Newton Izaak Walton League events, Audubon 4-H pie auctions, fair board fundraisers, and the Audubon Saddle Club banquet. He is also preparing to conduct his first hospital gala.
A 12-year-old first-generation auctioneer from Exira, Iowa, Brey is currently a 7th grader at Audubon Middle School, where he stays active in sports, band, and chorus. Outside of school and auctions, he enjoys fishing, playing catch with his dad, and spending time with his German Shepherd, Milo.
With strong community roots, a heart for service, and a clear passion for the auction industry, Brey Hansen is a young auctioneer with a bright future ahead.
