IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT: Carl Bowden will be transferring his work to Allen, Gibbs & Houlik (AGH) to continue leadership coaching while being a part of a larger team. See Carl’s message below for more information:

“The path has changed, but the mission stays the same.

Over the past 5 years, I have been on a business building adventure that has allowed me to live to my greatest passions of leadership development while tapping into my passion for the outdoors by leading outdoor leadership retreats. These past 5 years I have learned more than I could have imagined, I have been connected with some of the most exceptional leaders of Wichita, and I have developed some amazing friendships along the journey.

Building a business is no joke and it will take you on the wildest roller coaster ride of your life with peaks, valleys, twists, and turns that will throw your emotions in all kinds of uncomfortable situations. There are successes that you never thought in your life you would achieve and low points where you feel like you will never be able to get out of the pit that you got yourself in. Running a business takes grit, perseverance, passion, a clear vision, and the right relationships to help you trek the mountain you are committing to climb. However, on our adventure in life, we must be adaptable. We must remember who we are and listen to what we are called to do. But here is the tricky part, when we are called, will we answer?

I answered the call. At the beginning of June I took on a role as a Consultant with Allen, Gibbs & Houlik in the Organizational Development and Family Business Services department. This role has allowed me to continue to do what I am most passionate about by serving others through coaching, peer groups, masterminds, and outdoor leadership retreats. If I had not actively been involved in the community and put relationships as a priority in business this opportunity would have never come about. Thanks to Daniel White for seeing the potential in me and inviting me to come on board with AGH.

My time with Exemplify Leadership has been some of the most exciting years of my life. A time of adventure, a time for connection, and a time for myself to help realize my potential. However, during this time, something was missing. What was it? It was a team.

We can’t go on the journey alone. It takes a committed team to help us achieve the overall mission we are working on. For too long, I was operating as a one man show with limited help along my adventure. However, if I wanted to make a big impact, I needed an established team that could walk along the adventure with me. I found that team at AGH.

This is the beginning of a new adventure. An adventure that took me down a path that I did not expect to go down, but a path I was meant to follow. Did I answer the call, yes! Just because we go on a new path in life, does not mean that others we met along the journey have to go away. Each of you reading this post has made a huge impact on my life and I will forever be grateful for you joining me on the journey. This isn’t the end of my leadership journey, this is only the beginning.”

Genuinely,

Carl

“Always act in the client’s interest. Focus on the client’s success.” This is a phrase that all too often, business professionals get confused with.

I recently had a conversation with a high level executive of a multi-million dollar accounting firm in Wichita, and this was the advice that he shared with me. In this conversation I was reminded that oftentimes business professionals get caught up in their own self interest (myself included). This is one of the most dangerous places to be in business. And far too often, we all get caught up in this trap of serving the self instead of serving others.

In the midst of this conversation, I was reminded of another leader that had taught me an important lesson. A few years back, I had a conversation with a prominent political leader in Wichita that had asked me a question that often gets overlooked and taken for granted in business today. He asked me, “How can I help you?” Here’s the key word, HELP! Business is all about helping others. It’s about making life easier for those we serve.

Both of these leaders taught me important lessons that I will never forget. They are lessons that I am continually reminded of and continually work at. Lessons that have taught me that it really is all about serving and helping others. We must always act in the interest of the client, rather than our own self interests.

I share this as a reminder to all those who are reading to always put service above self. We are not all perfect, we make mistakes. And we are continually working to improve upon this lesson. Just remember to keep taking the next step. You’ll be surprised by how far you have come.

Keep taking the next step, keep serving, and keep helping others in the challenges and problems they face! We need more people that truly have a heart to help and serve!

Carl

BIG NEWS! Exemplify Leadership, Kristi Windish and Robyn Jackson with True Compass are teaming up to help leaders navigate their purpose to provide an in-depth personality and leadership assessment for Exemplify Leadership members. 🧭

At True Compass, they believe self-awareness is the foundation of effective leadership. Their unique assessment process blends three powerful tools—personality, values, and aptitude assessments—to help leaders gain a clearer understanding of themselves from the inside out. While most professional evaluations deliver feedback externally, True Compass uncovers objective, internal insights through the measurement of natural aptitudes, using the gold standard of aptitude assessments, the Highlands Ability Battery. The result is a comprehensive picture of “who you are,” “what drives you,” and “how you’re wired to work.”

Why Self-Awareness Matters

Research by organizational psychologist Dr. Tasha Eurich reveals that although 95% of people believe they are self-aware, only about 10–15% truly are. Her work shows that self-aware leaders are more confident, make better decisions, foster stronger relationships, and are more effective at work. Leaders who actively seek to understand themselves from both internal (introspective) and external (feedback-based) perspectives are more likely to thrive in dynamic environments.

The True Compass Process: A Whole-Person View

True Compass combines data about your natural strengths with insights from personality and values assessments to reveal a deeper understanding of a leader’s natural strengths, limitations, and behavioral tendencies. This process offers leaders and professionals a rare opportunity to:

● Understand the “why” behind their strengths and challenges

● Gain clarity on behavioral patterns and performance drivers

● Target growth more intentionally and authentically

● Leverage specific, innate talents in strategic ways

● Recognize areas for delegation to maximize effectiveness

● Manage energy and focus with greater precision

● Appreciate and apply the diverse abilities of others

Growth Through Insight

Growth is at the core of all professional development. But without self-awareness, growth efforts can lack focus or direction. True Compass empowers leaders to move beyond surface-level insights to engage deeply in their own development journey—aligning their responsibilities with their natural abilities and values, and cultivating the self-knowledge necessary to adapt, lead, and inspire.

Through Exemplify Leadership membership, Legacy Leaders have this assessment included within their membership and General, Emerging, and Executive level memberships have the True Compass assessment at a discounted rate!

Oftentimes in leadership, we overcomplicate things. If we want to exercise leadership, leadership must include action, influence, or living the example we want to see in the world.

In my life, I have found there have been many obstacles prohibiting me from living out my full potential. These obstacles included fear, a lack of support, lack of confidence, and a community that didn’t support me in my goals. However, as I have led my life and leadership coaching practice for the past 4 years as well as serving on various leadership teams, I have realized that all of these obstacles can be overcome through the right community of leaders to help support me in my goals. After realizing this, I decided to build that community of support for others, giving them courage, support, confidence, and accountability to help them reach their goals quicker, while also saving them time and money by making sure they focus on what matters. 🏆

Here is a framework that we focus on that helps leaders turn their ideas into action to help them exercise leadership and build a winning routine:

1. Start
2. Stay calm
3. Plan your tasks
4. Focus on one thing
5. Remove distractions
6. Break tasks into steps
7. Stay consistent everyday
8. Take action without overthinking

Once we have done the strategic thinking up front through coaching, we then turn that plan into action through these simple steps. This is where the real leadership happens. It’s the simple actions we take each day that get us to where we are going on our leadership adventure. Luckily, we can have a community to help join us on the adventure. 🏔️

This is why at Exemplify Leadership, we have created a tiered membership program for leaders to find that community that supports them. Our membership, “Be the Example”, is available to all levels of leaders and matches leaders up with certain levels of experience to help them build a team to go on the leadership adventure together.

At Exemplify, we have adjusted our membership model.

Here's Why........

1. We wanted a model that allows access to leadership development and training at all levels of a company. Emerging leaders, middle management/executive leaders, and C-Suite Executives/Business Owners and Entrepreneurs.

2. We also wanted a model that matches others up in a supportive accountability group that allows members to grow and learn on similar leadership experience levels.

3. We wanted to give leaders and their teams a clear direction for where they should be spending their time to help them reach their goals quicker with a group of like-minded leaders that truly understand them.

With this new model, it will allow Exemplify to scale and grow, allowing us to have multiple communities with multiple Exemplify coaches supporting our clients.

We are excited for what is to come and the community, connection, and culture that will soon be built within leadership around the world!

There is a clear accountability and leadership crisis in our workforce today.

According to a workplace accountability study conducted by Culture Partners spanning multiple years and involving over 40,000 participants across a wide variety of industries and organizations, a startling absence of clearly defined objectives and abundant confusion about the subject of accountability is common throughout today’s workplace.

Here are some of the highlights from the study:

Accountability is incorrectly perceived as strictly consequential and almost entirely after-the-fact—80% of those surveyed say feedback is something that happens to them only when things go wrong or not at all.

85% of survey participants indicated they weren’t even sure what their organizations are trying to achieve, a missed opportunity for creating alignment and focus.

The failure here is astounding—with 93% of those surveyed unable to align their work or take accountability for desired results. Fully one-third feel their priorities change frequently, creating confusion.

The burden is on leaders—84% of those surveyed cite the way leaders behave as the single most important factor influencing accountability in their organizations. And yet just 15% of leaders have successfully clearly defined and broadly communicated their key results.

When it comes to holding others accountable, 82% of survey participants say they either try but fail or avoid it altogether.

At Exemplify Leadership, we help solve this problem of the lack of accountability in the workplace. We coach leaders and their teams through immersive outdoor experiences. Our members reclaim their time, refocus their vision, and build high-trust, high-performing teams.

We don’t just develop leaders, we transform them, rebuilding their connection, community, and culture. How can you get involved and join an accountability group? Join our membership, “Be the Example”, today! Follow this link to learn more: www.exemplifyleadership.com/services.

Want to become a certified leader and join a supportive group for a lifetime?

Embark on a transformative 6-month journey designed to elevate your leadership capabilities through a structured, immersive experience, Exemplify’s “Mapping Out Your Leadership Adventure Certification.” This program integrates five progressive steps, each aligned with a core leadership course, complemented by interactive workshops, mastermind sessions, copies of books from famous leaders around the world and reflective journaling. You will receive an EXEMPLIFY CERTIFIED LEADER certificate and have lifetime access to our Be the Example general membership community! 🏆

The Problems We Solve:
1. Lack of Clear Vision: Many leaders struggle with the “end in mind”—an authentic, inspiring vision that guides every decision. Without this clarity, it’s easy to feel directionless, overwhelmed, or burnt out. We help you define this vision so you’re leading with purpose and passion.

2. Undefined Personal Leadership Style: Leadership isn’t a one-size-fits-all. Understanding who you are, what drives you, and how you naturally lead is crucial to building influence and impact. This certification empowers you to uncover and refine your unique leadership style, amplifying your natural strengths.

3. Stalled Growth and Stagnation: The path to growth can be elusive, especially when roadblocks or doubts keep you from taking action. We provide a structured yet flexible approach to help you apply what you learn, ensuring consistent progress and measurable results.

4. Struggles with Implementation and Accountability: Great ideas and intentions are just the start—action is where transformation happens. With actionable plans, waypoints, and measurable outcomes, we hold you accountable to real, meaningful change every step of the way.

5. Burnout and Lack of Support: Leadership can be isolating, and burnout is real. Our program not only equips you with techniques to fuel yourself sustainably but also surrounds you with a cohort of peers who understand, support, and uplift you.

Here’s our program structure:

Duration: 6 months

Workshops: Two 4-hour sessions per month with lunches provided

Private Facebook Group: To keep in touch between sessions with your cohort members

Mastermind Sessions: An accountability group with your cohort to help you complete your goals.

Reflective Practice: Personalized leadership journal with cohort-specific writing prompts

I am grateful to have taken part in this year's Customer Traction Cohort with NXTUS! Thanks to Mary Beth Jarvis, Amber Dunn, Elleigh Peters, Conor Adler, Symbria Hansen and the rest of the NXTUS team and community that have helped guide myself and the rest of these 19 entrepreneurs in gaining clear direction and support. It's amazing what we can do when we have a community that supports our goals and aspirations in making positive change in business.

Concluding this program, I have seen clarity and direction in identifying my ideal customer profile, where I need to be spending my time, and have identified a very clear model to grow and scale Exemplify. For that, I am thankful!

If you are looking to scale your business and need the community and support to help get you to the next level, I could not recommend this program enough!
