Calling All Kansas Landowners: Share Your Voice on Conservation Easements!
The Kansas Association of Conservation Districts (KACD) is inviting landowners across the state
to provide valuable feedback on conservation easement programs in Kansas. These programs
are designed to help protect, restore, and enhance our state& #39;s wetlands, grasslands, and
farmlands—preserving them for future generations.
To strengthen outreach, boost participation, and improve implementation of these programs,
KACD is conducting a brief survey to better understand the challenges and opportunities
landowners perceive. Your input will help shape the future of conservation efforts in Kansas.
The short survey includes 15 questions, is completely anonymous, and can be accessed via the
following link: Conservation Easement Survey, or by the QR code below.

Fall herbicide applications in pastures should be considered. Especially for noxious perennial weeds like Johnson grass, bindweed and woody weeds.

Between the never-ending battle against weeds, woody encroachment, and the onslaught of armyworms, this fall is time for some dedicated field maintenance. Or if you’re thinking about planting next spring, now is a good time to prep those areas.

🌾 Woody Encroachment in Kansas Grasslands

Woody encroachment happens when shrubs and trees spread into native grasslands—reducing forage for cattle and competing with native plants for water and nutrients.

This growing issue affects the Flint Hills, Gypsum Hills, and Smoky Hills.

🔥 Impacts include:

▪️ Decreased carrying capacity

▪️ Increased wildfire risk

▪️ Altered water availability

▪️ Threats to plant and animal biodiversity

Efforts are underway by Kansas Great Plains Grassland Initiative (GPGI), USDA-NRCS, landowners, and scientists to fight back.
