Happy Bi Visibility Day, from our founder, Liz.

Happy Bi Visibility Day!

Yes, I met a young man as a freshman in college, and we eventually got married and raised a family. AND I always knew that I had the capacity to love and be attracted to a person regardless of sex/gender.

Those who know me well know that I only finally really acknowledged it to myself and then publicly around the age of 35 because of the work I was doing and the understanding that , but nothing about who I married changes who I am or how I was created.

I occasionally get asked, "Why did/do you come out?" or "What does it matter if you're bi/pan/queer if you're married to a man?" in a way that sounds like, "Why do we need to know your sexual orientation? It doesn't even matter because you're married to a man."

And well, the answer for me is pretty simple. In my work, I realized visibility and .

It matters for the bi/pan/queer kid who needs to be able to see themselves as a whole, authentic grown adult, ideally also healthy, happy, successful and loved no matter WHO they love.

It matters because I/we/the world needs you to know that we're EVERYWHERE, all the time.

We're your restaurant servers, computer consultants, custodians, wheat harvest summer help, educators and consultants. (Yes, all jobs I've had.)

We're you're kids and grandkids, your cousins, your neighbors, your work colleagues, your clients and your patients.

We're in sports, in the bleachers at kids' games, in board rooms, in PTAs and in other professional meetings with you.

It matters because we need you to *really understand* that it's past time to stop assuming that everyone is straight and help us dismantle the heteronormativity default that causes harm to everyone who doesn't fit in that small category.

Get it now? It's simple, right? 🙂

It’s 988 Day! We’re honored to do upstream prevention work—trying to address root causes BEFORE they become crises.

Wellness and belonging work IS prevention work.

It’s 988 day! (9/8)

And next week is National Su***de Prevention Week. (We even got the official proclamation at the City of Wichita- Government this morning.)

If you or a loved one is struggling, you are NOT alone. Support is available.

I personally know what it feels like to have my brain try to convince me to get off this ride, and to fight the lies it whispered.

The obstinate part of me had to push back against shame, taboo and stigma to admit to people that I needed help and to advocate for myself.

It took deciding to go to therapy for the first time in my life and asking my doc for meds.

Not only did I need to push through feeling shame and embarrassment, I actually had to convince myself that my life was worth the $30/session co-pay for therapy. After all, even a few months of weekly therapy costs considerably less than a funeral.

And now here I am, almost 12 years later asking YOU to listen to whatever part of yourself tells you to stay. If you don’t have that part, it’s OK to listen to a friend or expert tell you that you belong HERE, this side of the dirt.

Please stay. Please ask for help. Few of us can do this life thing alone. 🫶🏼

As an equity-centered leadership consulting agency that does a lot of core values integration work, we believe there’s still a lot of work to do to get America’s (and many Americans’) behavior to align with the stated values of “freedom and justice for ALL”.

On this 250th anniversary of the 4th of July AND BEYOND, we’ll keep working to create a country where these values are a reality and everyone can breathe free.
