A post from our CEO Angeline F. Johnson!

"It has been an honor to have served as 1 of 65 inaugural Economic Recovery Corps (ERC) Fellows! I want to celebrate my fellow Fellows for the amazing work that has been and continues to be done by each of you in urban, rural, tribal communities and territories throughout the U.S.! The national impact of this
U.S. Economic Development Administration investment into the ERC will build communities and enhance lives for years to come! Congratulations to all for doing THE WORK that matters! Thank you to the International Economic Development Council team for the vision for and managing of this process!

The Economic Recovery Corps (ERC), IEDC’s flagship initiative with the U.S. Economic Development Administration, was built around a question: Can communities move further on projects when they have dedicated capacity and expertise working alongside them?

ERC placed fellows into communities to become a part of the local ecosystem, building trust, strengthening partnerships, navigating barriers, and helping move projects from ideas toward implementation.

As the inaugural cohort wraps up this fall, the fellowship comes to an end, but the capacity, relationships and momentum built along the way continue.

Today marks my final day as an International Economic Development Council Economic Recovery Corps Fellow.

Today is bittersweet.

For the past 2½ years I've had the opportunity to meet and grow with some of the most dedicated economic development professionals in this nation. Serving across states, tribal nations, and U.S. territories, the 65 inaugural ERC Fellows and our host organizations have made IMPACT.

My work lived with the Greater Wichita Partnership, asking one question across a 10-county region of south-central Kansas: What can be done to ensure the economic vitality of the region through the lens of childcare, affordable housing, and regional transit?

That question produced three white papers on the topics of childcare, affordable housing, and regional transit. Each of paper examined these topics through the lenses of talent and economic mobility. More importantly, that research is now built into a broader Economic Mobility Plan that is now moving toward implementation. The research that I produced are not documents that will sit on a shelf. The research and work that was produced are efforts that are ongoing and will deliberately outlast my tenure in this role.

Thank you to the U.S. Economic Development Administration for a $30 million investment that has generated over $240 million in return nationwide! Thank you to the teams at IEDC, the National League of Cities, ICMA - International City/County Management Association, and National Association of Development Organizations (NADO) for your partnership and support. And thank you to the team at Greater Wichita Partnership for the opportunity, and to the community partners across Kansas who allowed me into your rooms and at your tables to do the work that matters for COMMUNITY!

To my fellow inaugural ERC Fellows — I wish you every good thing as you continue doing work that matters throughout our nation and territories. Though the fellowship ends, we know that the work does not.

I look forward to continuing to see and hear about "THE WORK" that each of you will continue to do to impact communities and change lives for the better!

You are all simply amazing and it has truly been an honor to work alongside of each of you!

And now...ONWARD!!

Grateful. 💙
