Recent trips to Morocco and Egypt. Muslims consider dogs dirty, only kept for hunting or protection, never pets. In Morocco they are especially mistreated, scavenging garbage to survive and maintaining a 20 foot distance from humans to avoid beatings. They are more numerous, healthier, and slightly better treated in Egypt. They are nocturnal scavengers, sleeping during the day. I’ve posted a picture of one resting on the Great Pyramid. The pups were looking for a handout at Aswan dam. They are descendants of the native North African dog, the jackal, with upright ears and the cunning needed to survive. There are no rescues and government does not allow dogs in airports
