The afternoon session on day 4 was a hot one. Students gained hands-on experience with vehicle extrication techniques and employed tools used by Rural and Wiley fire to tear down vehicles. Furthermore, they practiced igniting and extinguishing vehicle fires. We extend our gratitude to Prowers County Rural and Wiley firefighters for their involvement.

In light of our previous post about the upcoming Emergency Services Tax, and ballots beginning to arrive in the mail for this upcoming November, we invite the public to message our page, or give me a call with any questions, comments, or concerns about this ballot issue.

We would like to inform the public of an upcoming ballot issue this November. This is a half cent sales tax that is proposed by the Board of County Commissioners. All emergency services in Prowers County will benefit from this tax, Fire Departments, Ambulance Services, Law Enforcement, Emergency Management, and Prowers County Dispatch. Department heads met at several meetings in the months prior to discuss details, and agreed upon percentages to be distributed to each respective agency. The tax would not only be a direct benefit to our agency, but it would also bolster the response of our neighboring agencies that we routinely work with. This tax will also sunset in 10 years, and what that means is it will go back to the voters for approval after a 10 year span, should voters approve the ballot measure next month.

The reason this is being proposed is because all agencies in the county are having financial difficulties in multiple areas. This includes but is not limited to, replacing and repairing apparatus, replacing aging personal protective equipment, and replacing radios that are obsolete/no longer supported by the manufacturer.

Missing 3 year old male child that is special needs. Autistic, wearing just a diaper, darker skin, and long black hair. Last seen around 4:00 am in the 900 block of Washington, in Rocky Ford. If found please contact RFPD at 719-254-3344 or call 911.

Often times you will hear "Volunteers don't necessarily have the time; they have the heart." This phrase is usually used in an emergency response context, but yesterday, it went above, and beyond that. The main water line to our station broke, and within roughly an hour we had equipment and volunteers show up to the station to help, and in roughly two hours the line was repaired. Volunteers regularly put their lives on hold to respond to calls, and come to training nights, and this time members put aside their plans for friday evening outside of their regular duties to help, and we sincerely appreciate what all these folks do. Thank you to all of the Wiley Fire volunteers, Chief Staffon Warn and Prowerscounty Ruralfiredept volunteers, Scott Whitman with the Town of Wiley, A1 Rental for the equipment, and the various members of the community who stopped to see if we needed more help. We have a great community around us!
