Greetings ghouls and fiends.........I mean friends!
I have a special request of everyone. I am currently working on my PhD in History and am researching for my dissertation. The topic is Appalachian death customs, particularly in central Appalachia (Kentucky, Virginia, Tennessee, and West Virginia) from the 18th and 19th centuries. It is a cultural approach and I really need PRIMARY SOURCES such as diaries describing death rituals and customs, family Bible entries, letters, and items such as death quilts, cooling boards or racks, funeral garments and mourning wear, hair art and jewelry, grave markers, coffins, and people performing the acts of sitting up with the dead, burial, grave digging, etc.
If anyone has pictures or digitized items of these things or knows where I might be able to find them, I would greatly appreciate it. PLEASE IM me!
I am currently looking at local historical societies and museums as well as university archives but am not having the greatest luck. If you work in such a place or know of someone I could contact I would greatly appreciate it!
Thanks in advance!
Leslie
