Silver Hand Meadery is a local producer of mead, also known as honey wine, in the Williamsburg area. Mead is one of the most historic fermented drinks found on Earth with the creativity of craft beer and the elegance of wine. It is created by fermenting sugars found in honey with additional herbs, spices, and fruits added to create unique flavors. Our meads typically have an ABV of 11% to 14% and range from dry to sweet, with beautiful clarity and color. Since mead is mostly an unfamiliar drink, we offer tasting experiences of the different varietals of honey we use ranging from Orange Blossom to Star Thistle and more.

It’s harvest season for Virginia apples! If you’ve never visited an orchard before, here’s a glimpse.

There is no better place to source robust Virginia varieties than from our friends at Silver Creek Orchard. The drive is pleasant because the reward is great - we’re excited to announce another c***r recipe coming soon, a semi-sweet blend we’re calling “Standard Time.”

Have you tried Higher Ground? It’s a bit on the drier side as far as c***rs go, but pairs amazingly with sweeter meads for an interesting mixed drink. Available now in store or online.

As shown in the last image, for every bottle produced, there’s about 5-6 pressed apples!

We often get asked if mead is super sweet - well yes and no! For instance, as Tyler from Autumn Olive Farms experienced last weekend, mead varieties can span the gamut of structure, mouthfeel, aroma, and sweetness, much similar to w**e!

Our mead (and honey!) tastings last only about 45 minutes but pack a ton of information and flavors in a short amount of time. It’s a great way to approach the world of mead and expand your palate.

"Higher Ground" won't be the only c***r at Silver Hand Meadery for long - we're excited to announce "Standard Time," harvested from heritage varietal apples in Virginia and a bit sweeter than its forerunner.

The apples were pressed just earlier today on this crispy October Monday and picked up shortly afterward by Glenn himself.

Erin Pecarich of Division Road Inc. sat down with owner/founder of Silver Hand & expert mead maker, Glenn Lavender, to reflect on their mutual philosophies towards ecological stewardship and honeybee appreciation that lead to their eventual collaboration.

Using honey harvested right on site of The Fields property, which hosts their company headquarters, the process towards designing a metheglin (herbal infused mead) reflected the tastefulness and attention to detail that is also present in their menswear line.

It was such a rewarding process and we look forward to next year’s batch! Plans are already underway for a 2027 release.

Savoring what is good! Who knew luxury handmade goods & mead pair so well together.

Over the weekend, Division Road Inc., a premium menswear clothing boutique hosted a private gathering of industry leaders and special guests, & we were honored to be among them.

Jason & Erin Pecarich reached out to Silver Hand in the spring of 2025 to craft a special blend of mead using the property's honey, even guiding the flavor profile to specially reflect the essence of Division Road Inc. - more on that artistic process to come.

It’s never too early to make your weekend plans! Join us this Friday, October 16, for a cozy fall night of jazz at Silver Hand featuring the Al Wittig Trio performing the music of Sonny Rollins, Milt Jackson, and Thelonious Monk.

Saxophonist Al Wittig, a U.S. Air Force veteran, published composer, and Shenandoah Conservatory alumnus, leads the trio for an evening made for settling in with a glass of your favorite mead and enjoying the music.

Food service starts at 6 PM, and music begins at 7 PM.
